Like... Whose Line is it Anyway?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
My exact thought.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-19 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it, too.

I don't think I've ever been into a panel show (Not sure what all would be considered one), but I do love things like Graham Norton where multiple guests are on and they get to interact a bit. Some of them are really fun to watch together.

Panel shows would be shows like Have I Got News For You, Mock the Week, Would I Lie To You?, 8 out of 10 cats... That sort of thing, where it's not about the guests and their projects/lives, but about the show's gimmick (news, lies, statistics).

Graham Norton is great! Some of his guest combos really hit it off, it's amazing.

Are most of those British shows? I've only heard of “Would I Lie to You?" and I don't think I've seen it. Maybe I'm just pathetically uninformed, lol.

Oh yea, I love it when the guests on Graham Norton seem to enjoy each other's company, or at least play along. It's my favorite thing about the show; I like the relaxed environment and how it lends itself to joking around. I could spend waaaay too much time just watching celebs banter and swap stories.

nayrt - Yeah, all the shows named by the previous anon are British. I recommend Would I Lie to You?, actually, it's a good show. Most panel shows involve plenty of banter, that's what makes them so fun to watch.

Ah, okay; no wonder I haven't heard of them then. Maybe I could do a bit of digging on YouTube later!

The gameshow element of most panel shows is really just a device work around. Nobody involved is deeply invested in the outcomes. So I'm not sure what different it would make in the end.

Taken to its logical extreme by the British radio show "I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue".

op, have you started watching some ongoing panel show?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-20 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm 100% here for the "You Have Been Watching" still (though my favorite episode is probably either the one about TV Bastards or "The '90s: A Warning for the Future"--despite the fact that it also meant you had to put up with both Phill Jupitus and Jack Whitehall, the clips were just too good and I love Victoria Coren)!
