Tropes/Dynamics you used to like but don't anymore

(Anonymous) 2015-08-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
For example: "I really used to like anything involving time travel, but now it bores me to tears."
Or: "I loved 'Found families,' but Superfamily killed my love for that dynamic."

I used to be all over vampires, explored all different back alleys of the assorted mythologies in various fandom AUs, and now oversaturation in media makes me want to dry heave whenever I think about them.

Zombie apocalypses.

I was never a huge fan of zombie apocalypses because zombies scare me, but I'm now the opposite of interested in them. I do still love a good post-apocalyptic film/game/book though, but I prefer other roots of societal downfall.

Cutesy girls who're dying of illness, but remain beautiful throughout. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I ever liked these characters. (I changed my feelings after I got sick.)

Cuddling on the couch. I hate that trope now. I really hate it with a fiery passion.

Bickery, slap-slap-kiss, will-they-or-won't-they pairs. I think I only liked them in the first place because they showed up a lot as a side plot in stuff I liked (I was really into shounen anime and manga like Inuyasha) and it was easier to try and learn to love them than to get annoyed at them. But eventually enough is enough.

I thought I still liked older mentor/younger person (student, protégé) pairings (a holdover from my Snarry days), but I'm just not feeling it anymore it seems. Fic with dynamic is much more boring than I thought it'd be. Guess I should've figured since I haven't wanted to read traditional Snarry fic in a long time.

Single tear for the fact I will forever be alone on f!s with my Harry/Eggsy love.

Some things just aren't meant to be. :(

I actually found a time travel fic which turns Harry into the younger one and I'm enjoying that, lol! I'm still hoping it was just the particular fics that weren't doing it for me. I prefer a slow burn, but all the ones I tried had them already being in love with each other and ready to go. I want to read about them falling in love. :(

Ngl, I'm not a massive fan of time travel (Even though I watch Doctor Who, so clearly I can deal with it) and I don't find Colin Firth as hot when younger (still nice, but... Yea) so I've been passing that fic up.

I'm shallow.

I feel like there are a lot of fic where they take time to get together, but not a lot where they take a long time to fall in love.

If I find any like that I can tell you?

Sure!!

The fic was pretty sweet and easy to read, and it wasn't long. The time travel element def added to my enjoyment, I think, even though a lot of it was stuff I normally would not like.

That's not true, elaminator! I may just be a perennial F!S anon who's been around less and less these days, but I'm a big Hartwin shipper & general Kingsman: The Secret Service fan.

You, I like you. If you're still reading this, are you the anon who was saying how hot Harry is in that glasses thread the other day? Lol. You are an anon after my own heart.

You should come round more often! (Since you clearly have amazing taste. And since I'm always so desperate to talk about this film and there's not a big audience for that discussion here.)

I am not that same anon, though I do have a glasses kink & think Colin Firth looks great in everything, tbh. (Though like you, I agree that he was not nearly as attractive in his youth as he is now. I have the Hartwin shippers to thank for that knowledge. Without their GIFsets of his earlier roles, I don't know that I ever would have seen him that young.)

Knowing that I am not the only f!s'er with a thing for Colin Firth makes me happy. Especially present Colin! He was certainly not unappealing at a younger age, but I do admittedly think his face was more... Boring. Not bad, just not as interesting to look at; the wrinkles suit him. He's said as much himself!

I've seen a couple of his younger roles and enjoyed them, but nothing super young. I want to get around to them because he's a fantastic actor, but I'm not as motivated for superficial reasons, lol.

1. Extreme abuse/hurt/etc. I think a fic can manage the same emotional effect with a more realistic suffering. It seems unnecessary to me now.

2. Characters falling asleep without meaning to near their friends.

3. Penetrative gay sex as a default option even if it's the first date or a character is inexperienced.

I know anal sex in fic is just fantasy sex, but sometimes I can't forget the fact that anal takes prep in regards to cleaning...
