Re: Could you be "the asshole" in a zombie apocalypse?

Probably not. A lot of those kinds of decisions I can sympathize with but probably couldn't bring myself to do. Others are based on assumptions about what makes people valuable, and thus deserving of sharing your limited resources, and I have huge disagreements with a lot of those assumptions so I definitely wouldn't be the person leaving people behind because they can't fight. But then I'm disabled and can't run so I'd never be in a group making those kinds of decisions anyway.

Plus a lot of those kinds of decisions are based on a cynical view of people that acts like society would never be able to rebuild after something like that so it's got to be everyone for themselves, which is ridiculous to me looking at all the horrible disasters humanity has come back from over the last tens of thousands of years.

Well, in a literal total-apocalypse pure-survival scenario, I think those assumptions are fairly reasonable in general.

I mean, that's not a context that actually exists, and those judgments are stupid and cruel in literally any other context, but they are probably decent assumptions in that one specific context.

I do agree with you re: the possibility of rebuilding.

I just think there are useful skills that get overlooked in a lot of these stories.

That's fair.

Someone really ought to do a zombie story where the central character is physically disabled. So many assumptions would have to be reworked.

It's not a central character (which would admittedly have been harder to do in the style the book is written in), but there's a disabled character in World War Z. He's in a wheel chair.

State of decay has disabled characters! It's a game tho but she has an important role.

So does Dead State! Davis is in a wheelchair and does most of the day-to-day running of the shelter for you while you lead the away teams.
