Re: "Fuckboy"

I don't know what it means, exactly, but I have heard people "joking" about it being the guy world for "slut". Which.... Yeah. :/

I actually find the outfit on the left sexier, the right one is just weird(wtf is up with the trousers/skirt thing? Also that hat is not flattering, at all).

Dammit, it did not show up when I refreshed a couple of times. Sorry!

Were the currently running shows on channels with commercials? Do you know how ad revenue works?

Question though -- if you don't have the internet at home, then how can you POSSIBLY be stealing in the first place?

I hope you're not advocating that poverty means it's okay to shoplift books or DVDs.

Because if one doesn't have the internet at home, then I fail to see how pirating is even possible.

So my point stands.

Whatever. I'm not eating it to be healthy, I just like the taste. And I can't stand milk or soggy cereal so I don't put milk on any cereal.

Jesus H. Christ, I can't stop laughing at this.

You can when you almost get shot because you were walking around your house in the dark for no reason!

Oh for fuck's sake, someone thinking that stealing material things is the same as torrenting. Torrenting isn't even defined as stealing in my country, where stealing is "intent to permanently deprive". Torrenting does not.

Hell yes, I would download a car.

Oh yeah, why don't people say goodbye? Is there an actual reason for that in filming? I'd think that saying goodbye would help inform the viewer...

That's a cool interpretation! I partly agree and partly disagree. When it comes down strictly to viewing, I think Starsky & Hutch is honestly one of the most boring shows ever to watch if you're just reading everything through a slashy lens. Like. Okay. So they're in love. Great. Now what? What makes that remotely interesting or different from canon or worth talking about? If they were in love, they'd act exactly the same! I don't even have to exert the tiniest bit of effort to see them as slashy in canon. It's so goddamn easy it's a total snorefest.

The slash fanfic, on the other hand, I find to be amazing and really fascinating and interesting and wonderfully inventive, even though I do prefer gen.

Fair enough. Guess I'm just sensitive today cos my mother in law is feeding my son Rice Bubbles and telling me they're "healthy", while he's screaming and running around from the sugar high.

Re: Stupid little confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
What if you borrow said movie/game/book/show? You're not buying it then either, are you allowed to call yourself a fan?

Example: I own the entire series of Buffy. My best friend originally borrowed the box sets from me years ago and borrows them to this day every now and then. I only bought the whole series because I bought seasons 2, 3 and 5 and not having the rest felt weird to me. Haven't seen them in years, don't care about them anymore. Are you really trying to tell me she's less of a fan than I am of Buffy?

That said, by your definition getting stuff from a library also wouldn't count as being a fan, as one copy is shared by thousands of people. Libraries are like torrenting in regards with supporting the creative team, just on a smaller scale.

that's just the price you pay for style

Re: Media Pet Peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
The one that bugs me the most is when a cop/detective/agent needs to talk to/arrest a guy, and they call out his name before they are close enough to physically grab him. What happens? Dude runs, and then there's a chase. Like, seriously, the guy's not expecting you. Sometimes there are TWO of you. Get close enough to grab him.

The worst are where they see the guy and approach closer but still don't wait until there's enough room to avoid a chase. So annoying.

Re: Stupid little confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Um...I think you missed the point.

The argument is that some people don't have the internet at home and thus don't have access to "free" entertainment. My point is that if someone doesn't have the internet at home, it's not like they're going to be torrenting/downloading anything.

They'd have to go somewhere else to do that -- which just means they could easily go to the library for free/legal entertainment.

Thus, I have no sympathy.

Maybe Frosted Mini Wheats? Or Special K Fruit & Yogurt (though I don't have it as often) or Chocolate Fiber One (which is apparently discontinued now, boo). Quaker Oatmeal Squares are also good. I love cereal.

When I was a kid I was all about Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but I haven't ate it in a year or so.

And I loved cereal with milk, but had to switch to Silk. I get the Organic Unsweetened Soymilk.

Did you completely ignore the bit where I suggested someone could have watched it at a friend's house? Of course you did, or you wouldn't be asking this question. There's other ways to consume media legally that don't involve piracy or physical theft, but again, those aren't completely free either. You can't always rely on friends to loan you movies, and if you don't even have any friends to begin with, and you can't afford the transportation to the library, and you can't afford internet... well, in all likelihood you prooobably have some more pressing matters to worry about than whether or not you can "participate in fandom" or consume entertainment, and at that point the question becomes moot, doesn't it?
