Re: What are your thoughts on Disney?

Not counting Pixar films or the MCU (in which case, GOTG 4lyfe), the only Disney movie I've enjoyed in the last 5-10 years is Wreck-it-Ralph. That's it. I grew out of the musicals, the goofy sidekicks, and princesses years ago. I wouldn't have ever seen 'Frozen' if my friend hadn't spontaneously dragged me to it, and it was mediocre at best, if not horribly overrated. IMHO, 'Wreck-it-Ralph' was an anomaly in terms of how good it was. (I have not yet seen Big Hero Six, though, so I can't comment on it)

The theme parks are alright, but Universal is like a speedy gazelle when it comes to developing new rides and attractions (Nintendo will always be The One That Got Away for Disney, that much I will say. All the industry pundits seriously thought Disney would be the one to broker a deal with Nintendo, not Universal) whereas Disney is super glacial in terms of innovation in comparison. Also, parks are too pricey on all fronts, but I kinda understand why.

Not a fan of them as a company, overall. Especially hate how they're trying to forcibly gender the marketing for Marvel and Star Wars towards boys (if it wasn't for pressure from social media, I doubt they would've added Avengers to the 'Girls' section on their store website), given both franchises have huge numbers of female fans. As a woman who's been a fan of the two for almost my entire life, that raises my hackles to no end.

Unpopular opinion, but I think Big Hero 6 is insanely overrated as well. It's a cute concept and it bought a lot of people with how adorable Baymax and Hiro are, but plotwise it's a lazy mess, and most of the characters are woefully underutilized and unnecessary for the plot.

As an addendum, I'm actually hopeful about Zootopia, because I'm pretty much a furry without identifying as one, and most of the folks that worked on "Wreck-it-Ralph" are working on it as well. Cautiously optimistic.

I don't really have a solid opinion on 'Moana' just yet, but it's already a breath of fresh air because it's not based on an European fairy tale. Not keen on the idea of it being a musical, but eh, it could surprise me.
