I disagree. I do wish there were more m/m and f/f canon COUPLES in TV and movies (even ball-sucky couples), but I wouldn't ever want any of my m/m and f/f ships to become canon and be reduced to the bland disappointing godawfulness that plagues het ships that become canon.

That was exactly my reaction. They had to ridiculously over-gender the umbrellas so they wouldn't be accused of making a gay love story... between umbrellas.

It did leave a rather poor taste in the mouth, and it was a pity because it was a sweet little short film otherwise.
