I haven't seen this and was about to ask how they gendered the umbrellas when I noticed the eyelashes. And the... Idk how to describe it, thinner, more... Curvy shape of the red umbrella.

And now I'm laughing because yea, it is kind of ridiculous.

And it was just the female umbrella that got this weird sexed-up treatment. The male umbrella was allowed to be "normal".

I'll be happy if I never see that umbrella short again, to be honest. It's just no fun to be reminded that although women make up more than half the world's population, it's still required for female characters to be pink and curvy with big eyelashes or else it's assumed they're a man.

...Even when they're a frickin' umbrella.

I'm really trying to teach my kids that unknown or no gender is "they". Or I alternate "she" and "he". But literally everyone else always uses HE HE HE HE, male as default is so common. And I think an important part of sexism at its roots.

Fun fact, the common gender neutral used to be they. Shakespeare uses the singular they, for example. Then... sexism!

And basically so many dudes bitched about if 'they' was used it would mean men were equal to women and it was better to just use 'he' to refer to unknown people. Because hey, if a lady gets called he it's a compliment, and it saves dudes the crushing insult of being referred to with the same words as a woman.


I get unreasonably angry that our local kiddy sports teams are "Pirates, and Lady Pirates" "Orioles, and Lady Orioles" Come on, either go with Lord and Lady, or two different adjectives. Don't tell boys they're the default and the girls are the alternative team.
