Well mock or think I'm a horrible human being on some places.

As someone who could be considered under the LGBTA umbrella, I honestly don't care if someone privately thinks homosexual sex is a sin (A sin, not THE sin) but doesn't actually bother people about it.

If someone's opinion is literally just "well I personally consider it a sin and against my religion but what other people do is not my business" and they don't try to block rights for other people then....they're not as much of a bigot (or honestly a bigot at all) as the person who acts against people on their belief.

If it's just "eh its technically a sin but whatever" is just an opinion they have, it's an opinion I certainly disagree with but, if they leave people alone, they're not hurting anyone any more than someone who thinks its a sin to eat pork.

I'm kind of in agreement, but I feel it's dickish to bring it up. Like if that's your opinion, maybe wait till you're discussing it with like-minded people but there's no reason a gay person in your life needs to know it. If you tell them, then I kind of wonder what the motivation is because it feels quite passive aggressive.

"Oh, you're having a BLT? Well, you do what you want but I happen to that eating pork is a sin."

There's just no way that isn't dickish.

Oh yeah. Depending on the context of mentioning it, it can certainly be disckish. Just like going off about how you hate all genre fiction in a fantasy writing community would. Or anything like that.

But if asked by someone how you feel about it, and you just answer honestly, then that's different.

It's just like, you have the right to an opinion, but that doesn't mean that if you air it in a dickish way that it being an opinion makes it okay. If you're a dick about your opinion, you'e being a dick and people are free to criticize you as such.

Yes, I'd say that's fair, as long as someone who disclosed such an opinion was prepared for the possibility that they'd get a negative reaction from it. Being anti-genre in a fantasy community is nowhere near as personal as being anti-homosexual in a gay community, after all.

Honestly I apologize for that comparison. I meant it in an example of a social situation of spouting off a belief against something in a setting where many people believed the opposite. However I can see how that would be insensitive to the gravity of the situation. I apologize.

Oh no, I didn't think that at all, please don't sweat it. It was a fair comparison in the sense that people often interject themselves into a community in order to express an opinion that goes against that community, and then seems offended that they weren't well received. I understand that people have opinions about homosexuality being a sin, but I can't think of any good reason to expect a positive reaction from a gay person if they heard it.

I agree. It's fine if you're directly asked, but otherwise "I believe your going to hell, but that's none of my business" isn't something you say unless you want to be sure they know your views and that's not really a loving thing to do.

Um yeah? I'm a lesbian and I think it's fine to have a religion or whatever that thinks that's wrong, I just want them to keep their mitts off lesbians etc. I don't have a concept of "thought crime", yanno?

This. Like sorry, no I'm not going to cut a bunch of great people out of my life just because they've shown vague disapproval of my sexual orientation a few times.

Another thing, as a bisexual, I do not give a shit if someone wants to headcanon a character as bi in order to ship them with a character whose gender they haven't shown interest in canonically. I don't feel "used" or disrespected. I had no idea anyone would feel that way. There is never any wrong reason to headcanon underrepresented identities, IMO.

Also I when it comes to having a normally gay character have interest in the opposite sex, I can understand why people are against it, but I think it's offensiveness depends on how its done. There's a difference between having someone have sex with the opposite sex and be insta-cured and straight, and having a character turn out to be bisexual. That's a thing that can happen.

There have been many people who started out believing they were attracted to one sex/gender and then discovering they may be attracted to another (me included). Also experimenting is a thing. Also it depends on the character.

Having grown up with the "homosexuality is a sin" belief (and living with a mother who still holds it), I have to agree with you. I know how my Mum acts, she believes it, but she does not believe in shoving it in everyone's face, because being belligerently aggressive about forcing one's beliefs on others is also a sin.

(I once believed it, before the internet and before I discovered slash.)

My grandmother was a lovely woman who loved me, but also believed that it was a sin. We never spoke directly about the fact that I was a lesbian, but she did talk quite a bit about Jesus being love, and, well, she loved me.
