Is it typical for both the girl to be on the pill and the guy to use a condom at the same time?

Seems to me that the the girl was previously on the pill, and then was not and did not inform the boyfriend, with the intention of getting pregnant. Although the guy should have used a condom (which, with the above question, I am thinking is not as common, though I could be incorrect), the center point (which the OP did not mention in the secret, and would have cleared up a few things) was that the girlfriend purposely deceived the boyfriend. For something I'd consider to be a very stupid reason.

My comment still stands. Someone who doesn't want to risk dying of a preventable STD would use a condom regardless of what the girlfriend tells him. Would you really trust someone else with your health? Anyone who does is very foolish. And we only have the OP's word that the girlfriend did this on purpose. If the OP is basing this on the word of the brother, many a guy has made the 'she oopsed me!' claim before.

Um... yeah, it is typical to do both, actually. Because, as said before, birth control can fail.

You must be a virgin because I've never heard of that shit being typical. You're in a monogamous relationship and have gotten tested for STIs, the girl's on birth control... why use a condom? It's kind of why birth control pills were invented.

Indeed I am. Sorry if it bothers you? But srsly. As a large majority of my friends aren't, just because I haven't done it myself doesn't mean I'm ignorant to this stuff, girls talk, ya know? We're teenagers. And birth control can and does FAIL, not just in movies. Simply because you're happy with your boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't mean you want a kid, so yeah, as far as I can tell, using both is typical. At least for my friends.

But w/e, I guess it's just where I'm from, and that fact that there are already so many unplanned pregnancies in our area that maybe the girls are just being extra cautious.

There's nothing wrong with being extra cautious -- it's great! -- but such caution is relatively rare across the globe.

just out of curiosity i wonder where you/rainbloom are from, because my area is pretty darn cautious also.

I'm not saying people don't use condoms, it's just that when you're in a committed relationship here, you and your partner get tested, and if you're disease free, the girl might go on the pill in order to stop using condoms. It's just the way things are usually done amongst my group of friends. No pregnancy scares yet.

hmm. among my friends it's the norm to double deal it--we're from san francisco. personally I say, if you can't deal with "pregnancy scares" don't have sex. *shrug* but then, I know how well that works.

I'm not a virgin, and I've always used both with sex with men I know the histories of. My gay friend is in a committed relationship with obviously no fear of pregnancies, and they both know histories and STILL use condoms. My STRAIGHT friends are the same.

I am well aware that people don't practice safe sex on a frequent basis, but that is a completely moot point as we're talking specifically of people that DO practice safe sex.

See, it's obvious YOU are an idiot.

It's TOTALLY typical if you REALLY don't want a child. Everyone who knows something about BC knows that nothing is 100% effective.
So if you're willing to take that chance that you won't be the 2% or 5% that it fails for, then you're going to have to take the responsibility when it comes that you WERE in that margin of statistics.

And not taking the pill does not make him any less of an idiot for just not wearing a condom to BE SAFE. Just in case she accidentally missed her pill a day and she ovulated anyway. The BC pill is not very effective unless taken TOTALLY as directed. Meaning - every day at the same time.

Yes. Unless one or both are morons or want to get pregnant or catch an STD.

DUUURRR.

The pill is not 100% effective, nor is the condom.
Put both together and you have a MUCH better chance of not getting pregnant than if you just use one without the other.
If you're stupid enough to think one is enough - you're stupid. Period. And the fault is THEIR own, not the fault of every other pregnant teenager on this planet.
