it's true and I'm okay with this.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh, it's fantasy, they can de-age her in the present day.

Actually, that'd be pretty sweet.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
they don't, tho

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
They only ship older Peggy with Steve?

I really wish they would, honestly.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I ship Steve/Bucky, Steve/Peggy, & Steve/Peggy/Bucky. Catch me at the right time & I'll ship Peggy/Bucky too. Those 3 didn't have much screen time together, (like, at all), but it was a pretty intense 15 seconds. lol

I'd be all for a de-aged modern day Steve/Peggy, with Steve & Bucky just as BFFs. I don't care HOW these three are together (romantic/platonic), I just want them together.

Maybe that's true for some people (I wouldn't doubt it considering how hateful people can be of 'rival' ships), but I also think that many just like Peggy. I liked Steve/Peggy while it lasted, and while yea, that wasn't long and I never saw them as an epic romance (and was admittedly more into Steve/Bucky) they were sweet together. I think that relationship could've been handled much worse. (And tbh, that's how I feel about most the MCU's canon ships; it isn't often I like so many canon pairings, but the MCU has been pretty satisfactory for me in that regard.)

Not in the Peggy Carter fandom so maybe I'm missing something, but it might just help not to think about that.

I mean, Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy are looong 6 feet under, and people still read P&P happily.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think - and someone correct me if I'm off base here - but I think OP's implying that Steve/Peggy is widely supported because you can support Steve/Peggy while still going full tilt with your Steve slash ship.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Sure but Elizabeth wasn't frozen for 60 years and then brought back with Darcy on his death bed, making it so Elizabeth could be shipped with other people without anyone feeling guilty or like Darcy's a threat.

Canon is lovely because it is so tragic, but I really would give a lot to see Peggy/Steve happen regardless of canon. I think that's why they keep showing it whether it is oldPeggy or Dream Peggy.

Not sure how she is non-threatening, most people admire her and want to be like her at least in her fan base. Haley Atwell gets fanmail from people all the time telling her how much Peggy means to them.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Peggy's non-threatening in the sense that there's no way she can come between Steve and any potential love interests/shipmates in canon any more.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Why do people have that mindset? Do they think killing someone off gives their ship a better chance? What ever happened to the tragic romance route of never loving someone else again after your soulmate dies?

I dunno, it just seems really shitty for people to think death = all clear to make your move.

I've honestly never seen someone who only ships them because she's nonthreatening. Personally, while Steve/Bucky is my OTP, Steve/Peggy is a close second. In my mind Steve is bisexual, and I love her and loved the chemistry they had. And I like the bittersweet "what could have been" nature of the ship.

There is probably some truth to this, but I've also noticed that there are a lot of multi-shippers in the MCU fandom so I think there are plenty of people who love Steve/Peggy while also loving another Steve/someone ship as well.

I don't ship it myself but I thought it was sweet and I did feel for the both of them not getting their chance together.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I am always the first to look down on fandom for giving in to its worst instincts, but in this case, I think the love for Peggy isn't just an excuse to pretend folks aren't all about the two pretty white boys. CA:TFA gave them a tragic past, but didn't fill out her character much. CA:TWS gave them a nuanced, painful present, and most of all, Agent Carter made Peggy three-dimensional. She's the kind of heroine people are always complaining we don't get enough of: brilliant but flawed, powerful yet feminine, the whole package. Adding that element of unrequited tragic love, in her case, doesn't feel like just another cheap trope, it feels genuine and powerful, because her character's solid enough to support it.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Also Agent Carter made her eminently slashable herself, always a good way to elevate one's standing in fandom's eyes.

i think your cynical side is absolutely right

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if this is the only reason they are shipped but I have never seen Peggy get hate and I think this is definitely part of why (disclaimer: I am not big into the MCU fandom)

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Why do people ship stuff they don't like in the first place?
I know it happens, but what is the merit? If I didn't like a ship I would just ignore it.

Do people actually write fic and draw art of a ship they don't like?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Secretly I think you're right. I'm preparing myself for the Sharon hate.
iggy: (Default)

[personal profile] iggy 2015-08-24 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
This is absolutely true.

Nonetheless, plenty of Steve/Bucky fans still shit on her and her importance to Steve.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
well, those people's actions and opinions ARE shit -- so flush them, I say!

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You're probably correct in your cynisism.
