Sometimes I wonder if gay rights have progressed so much because it is something white guys can be.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not an uncommon theory. Except usually people add that it's something that wealthy white guys can be.

??

Sometimes I wonder if women's rights have progressed so much because a woman is something straight whites can be.

Sometimes I wonder if the Civil Rights Movement progressed so quickly because black is something straight guys can be.

With the first, it'd be "white women." With the second, it'd be "men."

Loving v. Virginia was 1967. Obergefell v. Hodges was literally - LITERALLY literally, not figuratively literally - two months ago. Sometimes I wonder if Oppression Olympics athletes are even qualified to compete.

That's kind of a terrible comparison. The civil rights movement started enormously earlier than the gay rights movement.

Ditto the women's rights movement, and the ERA still hasn't been ratified.

Not in Europe. But hey, only America exists, amirite?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
This is a thread for a secret about Stonewall, which happened in America. It makes sense that people are talking about when things happened in America.

as a white gay I don't see what's wrong with your comment tbh, gays in a position of privilege have historically thrown "undesirable" members of the LGBT movement under the bus to appeal to mainstream acceptance. sad to say progress we've made is limited and for privileged folks.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well why not? Normalizing queer is a process, whyever should it not start with the faces that society is going to be most sympathetic towards?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
because you're continuing to reinforce that fucked up power structure

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
How?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Bawww, go back to Tumblr SJW cunt.
