Re: Finally saw MI: Rogue Nation and have a question (SPOILERS)

Would you be interested in examples where the woman is a villain?
elaminator: (Kingsman: Gazelle)

Kingsman spoilers (seriously, spoilers)

Yea, there's probably a few villains or antagonists who fit, if OP is into that.

I was thinking about Gazelle as I read the post. Not surprising given my obsession right now, but still; I think she fits?

Granted she doesn't have a TON of scenes, but she's incredible in what should she does have, and I don't recall anyone ever underestimating her. No sexist remarks either. She's the right hand of the films main villain, is treated as someone he cares about and respects (And vice versa) and she's also his muscle. She brutally murders people on the regular, and somehow looks fashionable doing it.

She does end up dying by the main character, but only after said character pulls a trick out of his ass. He's a talented guy but she's out of his league when it comes to fighting and can't beat her the conventional way.

(Now I really want to see MI, OP. I'd have to watch the others first though.)

OP:

I guess I was primarily thinking about non-villains. Now that I think about it, some of the cliches may happen less when a woman is a straight-up villain, because heroes generally wouldn't be the ones to say sexual/sexist things, be overly cocky, etc. Her actively killing people would also be more expected in that role. But I think the tendency would still be to have her fight another woman for her "major fight scene".

Heh, I actually walked in on someone watching Kingsmen several times, so though I haven't properly seen it, spoilers don't really hurt at this point :P Interesting, though! Thanks for the rec.

(Personally, I think the MI movies work all right as stand-alones (saw 2, 4, 1, and 5 in that order and never felt terribly lost, though 2 almost put me off seeing any others). But it's true they do introduce a few universe-specific items and characters along the way. Anyway, it's a fun series overall, and it's neat seeing the different directors' takes on the franchise for each one.)
