I mean, I really don't mean to be rude, but the parallel seems fairly clear? Things like racial dynamics and definitions are hard to understand from outside a society.

DA Honey, the way you Americans spread your culture and cultural assumptions around the world like it's your backyard, I'd say the rest of the world has an advantage over you looking beyond your borders, in how we understand *your* country. Not the same as being in it, no, but I am very very very VERY familiar with American racial issues, and am much better informed than a lot of Americans I'd say. Not all by any means.

I'm sorry anon, im not sure what you asked.

Like there's very definitely racist history for both but they played out in different ways so what might be okay definitions in one place becomes completely not okay in another due to various things that happened? So I would not say they're parallel?

Sorry, I should have been more clear.

The parallel I was talking about was the parallel between Americans trying to comment authoritatively on Australian racial dynamics, and Australians talking about American racial dynamics. I just don't think that you have the knowledge or standing to do that, as the other anon said. With all the good will in the world.

In that case I agree. Even though I think they're stupid terms I don't care if they continue to be used in American context. It's when they leave the American context and start encroaching on others that I get cranky.
