That is one thing about superhero names that annoy me. I have a hard time remember which ones have spaces or not. Spider Man? Spiderman? Also with Dragon Ball Z. Or Dragonball Z? That is why my tags are fucked up. :(

I have the same issue with that murder school visual anime video novel game thing that's all the rage these days. Is it Danganronpa or Dangan Ronpa? I don't know, I don't know... D:

It's technically Dragon Ball Z, but so many people use "Dragonball" that I don't think anyone will get on your case about it. :P

The way I remember it is that Spider-Man needs a line/websling to get around. So the little hyphen is like his web. It's stupid but it helps me.

Star-Lord on the other hand I've got nothing and have had to look up constantly. I don't think the comics ever agree on it since I think i've seen it spelled with the space and hyphen.

DC, thankfully, lacks this problem.

I always write "Spider-Man" but only because I read the comics so much that "Spiderman" just looks wrong to me when I'm writing it -- I'm used to seeing it as "Spider-Man."

But I don't really notice (or care) whether other people write it with or without the dash.

The problem with tumblr is that it separates out words using the "-", so tagging something as "lord of the rings" turns into "lord-of-the-rings", meaning things that are tagged with a "-", it's a problem, and a lot of people on tumblr have taken to dropping the "-".

It took me a long time to realize that. I was tagging my X-Men stuff with the - and it was only when I got a bit more familiar and comfortable with tumblr that I noticed it didn't work.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, Tumblr really does ruin EVERYTHING.

Well fuck me I didn't know this... all those posts tagged X-Men were for naught. *twitches*

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
...? I don't see how that makes a problem? the tag still functions perfectly fine as tumblr.com/tagged/x-men, it just means posts that are tagged "x men" and "x-men" will ultimately lead to the same place, which isn't really a problem unless you happen to like a hyphenated series that shares a name with a non-hyphenated series. it doesn't break anything?

Today I learned putting a dash in between a superhero's name apparently makes you an elitist snob.
Lol this community will find the most ridiculous things to get offended over, I swear.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Want to really be an elitist snob for the hell of it? It's not a dash; it's a hyphen.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. I'd hate to see the world as you do, if you look at a fairly innocuous secret that calls out its own ridiculousness and jump to "THIS PERSON IS OFFENDED!!!"

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ew, I bet you pronounce gif as "jif" too.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
lol and here you are getting prissy and pretending a nonchalant fandom secret translates to "getting offended"

I used to write it Spider-Man but these days I've given up being picky about it and write it however.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I write it Spider-Man, but I don't care if others don't. I usually just call him Spidey anyway.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I write Spider-Man mostly because I read the comics so "spiderman" just looks weird to me. But I don't bother correcting people in general discussion since we all know who it is.

It only really bothers me in fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I really like the way you've made your secret itself the dash between Spider and Man!

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, I don't read comics at all and only casually watch the movies. I use the dash because I thought that was how you're supposed to spell it.

I always remember that conversation on Friends.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Phoebe: Hey! Why isn't it "Spiderman*?" You know, like Goldman, or Silverman?
Chandler: It's not his last name.
Phoebe: It isn't?
Chandler: No. It's not like... like ... Phil Spiderman. He's a Spider... Man. You know, like Goldman is a last name, but there's no Gold Man.
Phoebe: Oh, okay. There should be a Gold Man.

*pronounced Spidermun

I use the dash because that's how I was taught to spell it, and then at my work (I do entry-level transcription for phones and gaming system voice command software) they make us write every property name the "proper" way, so.
