Telemarketing Woes

(Anonymous) 2015-08-24 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to get nasty (i cussed them out) with a telemarketer today, because they called my house looking for a person who I don't know and that doesn't live at this address and as far as I know never has, but they called LITERALLY A HALF DOZEN TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF ABOUT FIVE HOURS. I had told them every time they had the wrong number, no such person lives here, and they still continued to call. I hated to be nasty but goddammit wtf, does anyone know if there is anything I can do to get these shitbag fuckfaces to stop fucking calling me?????? This has been going on, off and on, for months and I am sick of it!

If you're in the US, https://www.donotcall.gov/

Also inform them they're being recorded.

Might be a collections agency, in which case this is why they're not at all put off by your explanation that so-and-so doesn't live there anymore. Just in case it isn't, make sure you explicitly tell them NOT to call you again. Here's how to lodge a complaint with the FCC about telemarketer fraud:

That does suck. My experience isn't quite as bad but...I keep getting calls from the same kind of companies about the same kinds of things for months, possibly even years now. It's only every few weeks/months that I get a call when I'm actually around to answer it but it's still weird.

But the most annoying part is they always ask for my dad. Who died in 2008. It's not like I break down into a sobbing mess when I'm reminded, but I'd still prefer not to have to tell random strangers that 'yes, that's my dad, he's dead.' Kind of bums you out a little.
