The movie might get people into the original fic, but I have no doubt there will be a lot of fic for the movie version / interpretation of the characters.

You must admit the Russian guy looks a bit different, and they'll probably act a bit different, too. (Like the Starsky and Hutch movie versus the original show??)

Then, there are the way fandom tropes change a lot over the years. There will be some quite different fic for the movie. (If it gets popular enough, even high school AUs!)

Whereas fan fic from the earliest eras were often quite, quite different with a tone that can be difficult to get into for some newer fans.

I suspect many fans will get into the original stuff, but others will be like, "Nope, Movie-verse for me," and original fans may not like the "kids these days" writings.

Fun times ahead.

Oh, just wanted to add that I haven't seen the original series or read more than a tiny bit for it, but I'm pretty sure this story was originally UNCLE fic: http://www.amazon.com/Spy-Games-J-D-Ryan-ebook/dp/B00WNEX5Z8
Spy Games, JD Ryan

(Still loved it, though.) :D

I think this is much better than the film of Starsky and Hutch. This is a great film that stands on its own, but is also fun if you liked the show, as I did.
