I don't know entirely where preferences come from, it's possible some of it's socially conditioned, but different people have different preferences for different reasons and that's okay. I'm not comfortable assigning it entirely to conditioning basically because it diminishes agency

I don't really see where agency comes into it. Whether it's socially conditioned or has some innate origin or some mix of the two, it's not as though you've chosen who you're going to be attracted to.

And as someone who was actually in an abusive relationship I find your comment insulting. I didn't chose to be in an abusive relationship, and I certainly didn't like it. Jesus, what are you even trying to say here?
