There are two musical works that are certain to get the tears flowing for me:

Arvo Pärt: Fratres (Used in Mother Night)
Beethoven: Symphony 7, Second Movement (Used in The Fall and a few other movies.)
silverr: abstract art of pink and purple swirls on a black background (Default)

So much of Pärt's music has that dual quality of melancholy and uplift (the Cantus is the one that usually gets me.)

Also Barber's Adagio (which was used in the movie Platoon).
