My kitchen is absolutely disgusting. My roommates and I cycle on who is supposed to clean it every week, but they never do it. Or if they do, it's a half-assed job. I did it two weeks ago, last week was skipped, looks like this week is skipped, too. I am refusing to give in and do it myself, because fuck them, it is gross. But I can't even cook in there because it smells so bad and there are flies all over the place, so I've been wasting money with takeaway food.

Luckily we're done with this place really soon, and then I get to move out (yay!). But I'm also dreading the move-out cleaning. I'm almost certain that I'm the only one who is going to actually do it.

That sucks.

But, for me, just personally, the point where there are flies and shit is the point where I just give in and start cleaning.

Do you have cups or plates or dishes that are yours? I would say do it but take your stuff out of the kitchen afterward and tell them you're not using it any more at all- since you're not using it anyway- and they can split up the cleaning duties between them from now on.

Don't just wait for them to do it. Now that they've left it all for your week fucking gather them up and say "NO. We're taking care of this shit together, and do your fucking jobs next time."

My sympathies, living with arseholes for way too long was one reason I got a stress-related illness. I have no suggestions except... look after yourself and your health/budget more than worrying about fairness, I suppose. Especially if you're done with the place soon.

There's always the good ol' dumping their dirty dishes in their room though. But clean the saucepans so you can use them.

I've just put a name to my SO's frustrating, dysfunctional behaviour towards me. It's called narcissism. Shit. Currently I'm doing everything I can to keep this family together, and hope they can sort their shit out before I'm forced to leave and negotiate custody with the courts. I really didn't want that for my life, you know? I want a future together.

I feel you. I'm not a huge fan of cleaning, but my roommate seems to feel that because she's never here that means she doesn't have to help with the cleaning. Yes, I use more dishes, but she uses some too. She just leaves stuff for me to do because she figures that it should always be the person who uses it more except that she should be doing it sometimes too. It drives me nuts.

Could you get them to give you a reduced rent rate and just always be the kitchen cleaner? I know a few people who have arrangements like that.

Who is all on the lease? Because if it was me and I was the only one on the lease I'd just collect the damage deposit minus what they owed me for pre-vacating cleaning (i.e. what I'd make as a professional cleaner which was $15/hour from each of them).
