Comics Question

(Anonymous) 2015-08-26 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
My comic book isn't available for free on the internet and I wanted to put it up to get it some attention. However, I have zero ideas how to do it. I am scanning the comics but I don't have a program to tilt them to make them perfectly 90 degrees and make them pretty. And I have no competency with torrent or anything like that.

Is there a place I can hook up with someone who does this kind of thing? (I would just provide the main scans.) Or does it not matter if the comic pages aren't perfectly cropped and upright?

And is there some other site I can bulk-upload in an organized fashion that is anonymous? Anything else I should consider?

Dunno about the scanning part, but you could storytime it on /co/ to give it some attention.

Could you give me more information about this? I don't know what /co/ is or how to storytime something.

(And I know from past experience that a big hurdle for people getting into this comic is that it is hard to find.)

/co/ is a board on 4chan dedicated to comics and cartoons. storytiming is the act of uploading a comic page by page so other people can read it.

here's a link to /co/: boards.4chan.org/co/catalog

I'm not sure where to start on that site but thank you for the link.

Can you download the GIMP? I haven't used it in years, but it can probably do the rotating.

Nayrt

I've used GIMP just recently for rotating. Works fine. Being careful with alignment while scanning will also help.

I'd say start out somewhere, either tumblr or a website. Though tumblr will probably get you more notice quicker, and be easier unless you know HTML and want to pay for website upgrades (like a .com name, and room to host your comic - not sure how many comics you have, but space on a free site can go fast). After you gather a following you could then always post to see if anyone would help you edit and clean your comics.

If you'd rather look at other options besides tumbler a quick search brought up theduckwebcomics.com . It's a upload and share type site. Though I don't know how hard it is to use. Also wordpress does have a very specific theme for comics called ComicPress, but it's supposedly requires a good bit of HTML and CSS knowledge.

Personally I wouldn't go with 4chan like above OP said, but that's just me. I'd rather put it on a site where I have more control of content. Also like other OP stated above there is Gimp for photo editing, but I find gimp can be generally confusing and way harder (laggier, more confusing, didn't get good results) to deal with than Photoshop. But it's a free program, so you could give it a try.
