Netflix

(Anonymous) 2015-08-26 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So I now have Netflix and I am just overwhelmed with choices! I'm one of those that's likes to look at everything before making my selection. If I'm in a restaurant, a grocery store, whatever, I need to see what's available. But Netflix will have multiple categories for just one movie and it drives me nuts!

Is there some sort of plain basic list that tells you what movies and TV shows are available right now?

You'll have better luck on the main website than on your device's built-in menu structure. For instance, you can sort by, say "newest releases in sci-fi/fantasy."

Oh this is good! Thank you anon! I can sort it alphabetically too!

You're welcome! Enjoy. =)

Just looking at a straight-up list is unlikely to be useful - there's a huge catalog

but instantwatcher.com is a really good tool

If you want to feel like you're looking at a list that isn't so overwhelming, CNN and a variety of other places frequently publish a "Things that are coming/leaving Netflix in XX month." It's not the same as having a list of everything Netflix has to offer, but if it's just reaching the end of a list that will satisfy you in the short term, it might be worth checking out.

I've seen that list. I'll probably end up using that later on. Thank you!

Not OP - related question

(Anonymous) 2015-08-27 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Can you just watch movies/shows on it, or do you still have to receive DVDs?

They do have a streaming-only subscription option.

I hope you see this.

What I have is that my brother hooked up a Roku to my computer which basically streams to the TV. Then he added me to his Netflix account and also added a bunch of various "channels" including Plex and PBS etc. The Plex is awesome as he got a bunch of movies and TV shows, downloaded them and made available on Plex for my mom to watch.

There is still a separate DVD only option.

I have no idea how Netflix is supposed to work normally on TV's, if you need a Roku device or not. I'm sorry I'm not that technologically savvy!

Streaming and DVD plans are entirely separate now.

Streaming: pay based on the number of "screens" (1, 2 or 4) $7.99 - 11.99/month (USD)

DVD: 1, 2 or 3 out at a time, or a budget option of 2 DVDs a month 7.99 - 15.99 (USD)
(a bit more if you want BluRay).
