"Mystique is supposed to be unflinchingly badass"... hah. Ahahahahahah.

There are some cards you can still play, anon, but "Old-school fan who understands these characters on a deep level you noobs don't even know about" is no longer one of them.

???

Comic-book Mystique is pretty hardcore, though.

Maybe not unflinching. The comic-book version had a wife and daughter, and could hesitate out of concern for them.

The comic-book version had a wife and daughter

Wait, when did comics Mystique become canon gay

Actually she's bisexual.

Really?

Seriously, when did this happen?

(anon hasn't paid attention to X-Men since they were a kid rereading old volumes of Essential X-Men from the 70s and 80s)

She and Destiniy were a couple for a long time.
Also, Nighrcrawler was originally supposed to be born when Raven and Destiny did the dirty tango, but the comic code at the time didn't allow it so they made her hook up with Azrael instead.

The 1980s? Granted, it was never explicitly stated until Destiny was put out of the picture.

"become"?

Like, the second page she appeared on? They kind of underplayed it for years, but it was pretty blatant by the time Irene died.

IKR? The anon you're replying to sounds like one of those movieverse fans who think they know everything because they read a few issues of the comic when they were 12, then looked up the characters' backstories on Wikipedia after watching the films as adults.
