What I can expect to see on the tumblr. That's it.

it makes me uncomfortable when people list their disorders, medical histories, and sexualities though. i was always taught those things were private, so it seems weird admitting it to complete strangers.

I sometimes find the oversharing a bit weird, but I think it's (or it started as) an attempt to make those things not shameful. Like, I get that there's a difference between things you wouldn't necessarily share because who the fuck would want to know, and things you wouldn't share because they're gross and you should be ashamed. But I think a lot of these people grew up or were taught that mental and chronic physical ailments and sexuality weren't private because no one cares that much but because they were deviant and disgusting and that they should be ashamed for their sexualities and illnesses that they had no control over. Which is fucked up. Shame should be about stuff that people have a choice to do or not, not about who they are and how they identify as people. So yeah, I find the tmi annoying sometimes, but I'm not gonna tell them to stop.

+1 And it's also about reaching out to others with similar identities (it's why I put that I'm queer in my twitter profile), and it might also be about giving people a better understanding of where you're coming from if you've got something going on with you that's a bit different from the "norm".

SA Thinking about it a bit more, if you do have a non-normative or less privileged identity, it's probably going to be a big deal in your life, and is going to feel relevant when summarising the main aspects of yourself in a profile. Why is it a big deal? Because you've most likely faced discrimination and/or misunderstanding for it.

agree on medical disorders/histories but sexuality? that's not inherently private if someone doesn't want it to be. I want to make friends with other LGBT people, and want people who don't like LGBT people immediately off my blog.

What fandoms they like and are likely to reblog and a link to their fic site or specific tags if they have them. That's all that's in my bio, lol.

I'll be taking notes. I think my bio is like a year out of date.

Commonly used tags, their job, their age (so I can bail if need be) and pets.

What they usually post, tags, age, that kind of thing.

I also like when people say if it's a queued blog or if they like to post a lot of things in one big go or whatever.

I like it when people have where they're from and the name they prefer to be called. Age is a bonus.

I also like it when people say what I in general can expect from their blog, like if it's fandom/multifandom, pictures only, [insert interest here] only, or personal blog, though that can also go in a tag page or an about me page.

As little as possible.

A link to their commission info. I usually follow artists, with the aim of commissioning cool art when I have the money for it but Tumblr's interface makes it near impossible to even find out whether they accept commissions.

Tag cloud. Maybe a goodreads or librarything widgit.

Age. Most other info is take it or leave it but I don't like it when at least a rough age isn't included.

I like seeing what Hogwarts house or Homestuck godtier title people give themselves.

Dunno why. I just like personality-typing games. I know they're silly and unscientific, but it's fun!

I'm not really on tumblr but here's stuff I like seeing in peoples' bios in general:

name (specifically, what they want people who interact with them in that space to call them)
gender/pronouns
fandoms/other interests
what they do and/or study, if they're comfortable sharing it
if they have pets/a family (including partners or other people they live with, doesn't have to mean kids, though kids are cool too)
I like personality blips like Meyers-Briggs but that's just because I find that stuff fun :B
links to blogs or sites they run or post stuff on

I like it when people add:
+beautiful art
+funny gifs or comics
+pet photos <3

Obviously not everyone is going to share all that shit but I genuinely find it interesting.

I like reading about pretty much everything on a bio unless it's assholish or over-the-top. Well, I don't love reading about conversations and inside jokes since most people who weren't there won't care.

Well I'm not on Tumblr either, but profiles on websites like FFN I like to see stuff relevant to what the website is for, and not packed full of random memes.

I don't mind FFN profiles that have serious essays about Fandom in the, like I know a couple of HP writers with long essays on their opinion about stuff in HP, but I feel that is informative about what they write.

Some of the examples on the thread about back Tumblr bios I would find annoying, if I spent enough time on the site to warrant looking up profiles.
