I actually get where that person on tumblr is coming from. A lot of people unknowingly give their money to rapists and abusers and other monsters, even though they might consciously decide not to if they were aware. It's good to let them know about stuff like that so they can make an informed decision to support that creator's work or not.

Agreed.

For this reason, I don't have much of a problem with blogs like "Your Fave is Problematic" (even if I personally find a few of the "problematic" things listed a bit ridiculous). I don't see it as telling people they can't like those people, I see it as putting the stuff people MIGHT object to out there so people can make an informed decision about whether to like and support them.

I don't like it when people act like someone is a shitty person for liking a celebrity, especially if they didn't know the bad things the celebrity did, though.

But a decision is no more informed if the information is coming without context. Two teens send sexts to each other can be charged with distributing child open and labeled sex offenders, for instance. Does that mean thwy're horrible people? No. But if all anyone ever says is "don't like them, they're kiddie porn sex offenders" they're missing a giant piece of context.

As someone who never checks cast lists and such, even if I was told that ___ is a rapist, I may still watch some of their works because of the way I choose what to buy.

It makes me a bad person?
I guess tumblr some people may think so, but I like to focus in the fact I'm supporting all the other people that worked creating that work instead of worrying so much.

Thank you for this comment.
I have avoided media before because I thought somebody involved was a shitty person. I would have felt wrong supporting something that led to a significant gain for a shitty person.
It helps to remember that there are so many other people involved in creating the work that are receiving the profit and support.
