(Anonymous) 2015-08-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)Back in the day, before the comic even got started, I was watching the artist on livejournal. She had the first character sketches there and kept referring to one of the characters as a "lady disguised as a knight" several times. It was locked some time after that, so most people weren't aware of it. Comic came out and male appearing character with it. Turns out he was suddenly a trans guy - which in itself is perfectly fine, but considering the way that character was portrayed before, it really seemed a bit like the author basically did it because it was the "in" thing to do at the time.
Then there was the thing with the comic being very aggressively promoted as a "two male gay main character knights" story. Turns out not only is one of the characters a trans guy, the other character is a woman in disguise! Making the relationship still queer, but at the same time effectively het. Which also wouldn't have been too bad in itself, but as soon as it was revealed, both the author and some of the fans started to get a very unpleasant "haha! Stupid slash fans! We tricked you into reading het! Stupid simple minded slash fans!" attitude - even though I never saw a single slash fan complain about it.
All in all, it was pretty terribly done.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-29 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)It's queer as in "in involves a queer character" but the relationship itself, as I said, is het.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-29 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)Well from what I gathered, it's basically gotten rebooted or something so maybe it's better now? So you might go ahead and try reading it. I'm just not interested anymore due to the things I mentioned, but you might enjoy it.
