High school AU's were only ever fun to me if they involved characters that are already teenagers. Anything else makes little sense. In general, I have no interest in HS stories mainly because I'm a lot older now, but they're alright for some pairs or situations. I used to enjoy this one HS au series because it involved a pair from a video game that didn't have a ton of fiction written for it.

Yea, I feel similarly. (If the characters are already teens or young adults I'm more likely to be interested in high school AU's.)

There aren't many fandoms I would want to read them in anymore, but sometimes if I'm running low on fic and find one I might give it a try.

Anything else makes little sense.

IA, in some cases. Like, I'm trying to imagine a Dragon Age high school AU or a Hannibal high school AU. Both are making me laugh. I think there are even Teen Wolf AU's where there are no actual supernatural creatures and that is completely unappealing to me.

Same. It's not really about the original story/setting/characters anymore if you push everyone back to their teen years.
