Must depend on your job. I have an office job and have to interact with people within my department and outside of it. Like high school, they're people with varying interests with whom I don't necessarily have a lot in common except that we're all working in the same place. You could sort of argue that high school prepares you for this, so claiming that high school is some unique environment is a big stretch.
