In post apocalyptic stories that only focus on one area, I like to envision that only that place is effected but the rest of the world is normal.

Like in Mad Max, everywhere except Australia is normal. But the rest of the world didn't realize what was happening until months after shit went down and now they are just like, "WTF. Leave them crazy fuckers alone."

Maybe that explains where all the fetish wear and sports equipment in Road Warrior comes from. Every now and then, someone on the outside air-drops stuff in just to see what everyone does with it.
