Lol, I hadn't even noticed your comment when I posted this. I get why other people like thanksgiving but I just... can't. It just always felt like enforcing false pretenses and societal obligation instead of celebrating actual thankfulness.

Also turkey is super overhyped and I don't think its as good as people claim and I don't like that its the must have food for the holiday. (I feel you on the autumnal thing though that is the saving grace.)

nayrt - I agree, turkey sucks. We usually have ham instead.

And I think ham sucks, so I was always glad we did Turkey for Christmas as well as thanksgiving. Plus, turkey noodle soup made with the bones is amazing. I could eat Turkey every day. Well not quite, but I do really love it.

DA, but I can meet you halfway on that. That's why we have small Thanksgivings with family members we want to spend that time with. The last time I went to a large Thanksgiving gathering, I vowed never to go back. Everyone was cranky and yelled at each other and either ate or drank themselves to sleep. What's the point?

Large family gatherings are way better for my family, because we can sort of pass the dysfunctional family members (IE my father, my mother's sister) around and spread the load. Whereas if it's a small gathering, they can dominate it with their bullshit.

Of course it'd probably be better to have a gathering with the dysfunctional members not even present, but what can you do.
