I don't know how unpopular this is but I hate valentine's day. They should call it you're a big fucking loser if you're not in a couple day because that's how it feels.

*nodding*

Also, Valentine's Day is about a week before my birthday, so basically the second half of February has for a few years now mostly been a really fantastic two-week period of the year for me to get unspeakably depressed about shit

This sentiment is popular with a lot of single people, actually.

I don't feel like a loser for not having a partner on V-Day but it's the day I get saddest and being single. :(

I agree with you.

My golden rule is that we should do nice little things like chocolate and flowers because we want to, not because it's FEBRUARY 14TH NOES. I'd rather do something special to us, not to mass marketing.

I agree with this. Especially now that my recent long term ex dumped me, and his birthday is right after. (He hated the holiday so we never celebrated it)

I'm in a relationship and I still find it annoying, partly because it's two days before my birthday so trying to eat out anywhere is a nightmare(and I like meals out for my b-day), and I'm just not a fan of the whole 'do a romantic gesture because the calendar tells you to' kind of thing.

I do too. Even if I'm in a relationship. I hate romance and everything about the holiday. There is nothing I like about it.

LOL, but look at what you do get if you ARE in a relationship on valentines day. A bunch of garish red and pink stuffed animals, cheap heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. No thanks. Of all the "holidays", I think valentines day is the dumbest excuse to sell things, and most of the themed stuff is crap anyway.

This pisses me off so much. Literally nobody is saying that. It's a day for people who are in couples to have a little extra fun, or if you're the kind of person to take advantage of a General Love Day to give cards to just special folks in your life, it's there for you. Literally nobody tells single people they suck on Valentine's Day. If you don't want to partake you don't have to.

It can be the case that the message exists in the culture without anyone explicitly telling single people to go fuck off.

In fact, it is the case.
