I have grown to dislike any holiday that obliges you to get cards for people. It's utterly meaningless. Worse are thank you notes. I said thank you and gave you a hug in person, wjy the fuck should I have to send you a thank you note with some platitude you'll just throw out in a week?

I don't send cards for any holiday. I visit people and give them gifts instead.

IA with this. I know that probably makes me sound all "bah humbug" but I just... the cards get thrown in the bin at the end of the day. Wouldn't it be better to just talk to the person?

IA. At first I sent cards back to those that sent one to me, but after a while I stopped doing that as well. For holidays or birthdays. It's ridiculous, because often people do nothing more but write 'Merry Christmas' and their name. Usually that's printed on the front of the card already and sometimes even inside the card.

I'd rather you save up the money/time/effort/paper and write me a nice e-mail/text/FB message to catch up.

And OMG yes, people that give out cards when you're right there with them. WTF is that about? If it had a long heartfelt message inside that would be difficult to get out in person, fine, but I don't think I've ever had that happen. So now it's often just an extra step between me and my present. Except of course if the present is tiny and inside the card. That's ok.

For some reason, I really love picking out the perfect card. I always feel satisfaction when I've found the perfect card and the perfect gift for someone.
