IA, soooo so much.

There is no point to celebrate Halloween where I am. (Australia.) It's... we just don't have the climate for it. You need pumpkins, and autumn leaves, and chilly weather.

I hate that stores are continuing to push it (and it's so blatantly as a way to make more money) despite the fact that no one celebrates it. We're lucky if we get one trick-or-treater at our door.

I always feel schadenfreude when I see all that crap the stores are trying to sell, being inevitably discounted. They can't even give it away.

*Hugs fellow Aussie*

That's exactly why I dislike it, because it never seemed like an Australian thing before the stores took it up as one more "holiday sale!" thing. Besides, the usual halloween candy packs are usually cheap stuff anyway, and nothing I would bother to buy post-holiday (unlike peppermint candy canes and Easter eggs).

da Exactly, it really does feel like something pushed on us by shops. Like, dayglo yellow pumpkins flown all the way from the US in the supermarket for Halloween, I have never seen one carved in my life. I think there are some places where trick or treaters are more common (marketing starting to work?), someone told me they got a few loads of kids through in a ritzy eastern Melbourne suburb last year, but I've hardly ever gotten any in my whole life living in the non-ritzy places. I get that it's fun to dress up and eat lollies, and I'm all for more cultural rituals and celebrations, but the whole "spooky" aspect just doesn't seem to jive with Australia for me.

It's springtime when you have it, right? Doesn't that feel weird?

AYRT

Yeah, I think it's springtime? It's hot as hell at any rate.

And yeah, it's pretty damn weird to see decorations with pumpkins and shit on them. I have never seen a carved pumpkin in my life.
