I haven't actually read that one myself yet, though I've heard great things about it! I would just check out whichever book of his you think sound more interesting, though out of the ones I listed I would say "Norwegian Wood" and "After Dark" are easier/less complicated to read. "1Q84" is also a bit of a monster (my edition clocks in at about 950 pages with a fairly small font) so that can be a bit of a commitment.

I'm personally not a huge fan of audio books, as I can never stay focused on the book and just miss out on a lot, so for me I would say that it's better to read them. But this obviously depends on person from person. If I remember correctly, you listen to audio books at work, which I could never do and still follow the story for instance.

I do listen at work! It helps when you have a super boring job that is monotonous. Though, I think his stories might be a bit too heavy for me to even follow. My coworkers can get pretty talkative and actually want me to interact. :P I am going to see about getting After Dark and Wind-Up Bird.
