After the earthquake in Haiti - as in right after, either 2010 or 2011 - (which, you know, was the worst earthquake in the whole wide world yet and killed over 300,000 people) a writer decided to set their SPN RPS AU fic in Haiti.

IIRC the premise was that Jared and Jensen volunteered as relief workers. They met there and fell in love; there was some other stuff I don't really remember anymore but the point is a) fic set in a country that was devasted by a real-life event because that's romantic, apparently and b) the Haitian people featured in the fic (who are suffering from the biggest catastrophe their country has ever seen) where only there to show how good and nice Jared and Jensen are and to give them sage advice about their love life.
