Text: I consciously wait weeks or months before looking for fic of movies I’ve just watched if there’s strong slash potential.

Not because I’m not interested in slash. I am, and even if I don’t ship any slash pairings from the canon in question, I like seeing what fandom’s up to.

It’s because I don’t want to feel like “that kind of fangirl”. I’m pretty sure I don’t fetishize or have my slash goggles on too tight, but still.

Book and TV fic, I look up whenever I want regardless of canon.

This simultaneously manages to be dumb AND elitist.

Yeah, really.

Can't you just like what you like and be done with it? Keep it to yourself if you're so ashamed.

Just relax, seriously, do what you want to do without shame and second-guessing, you'll be much happier. You don't need those kind of artificial guards on your desires.

I don't even wait hours. (Even if the film was just released and no one's had time to write fic I'll be on tumblr seeing what other people think of the pairing/film.)

But I don't see the point of being ashamed of shipping or denying yourself something you're interested in. (If you're interested in eating human flesh then sure, deny the fuck out of that desire, but reading slashy fanfic isn't going to hurt anything or anyone.)

Me too! Ten minutes later I'm on AO3 or googling for shiipy fanart. Wheeeeee!

Yea! I personally don't see the point of waiting; if you want it, enjoy it. (I'm also kind of impatient, but there's no reason you need to be patient about this sort of thing! Enjoy the fandom while you can, especially if it's new and active. It won't always be that way.)

Same here man. The longest I wait to go check out fic is a couple of hours if it was a movie I went to see in the cinema, otherwise it'll be minuets before I'm off to delve into fanfic archives for anything I can get my hands on.

And IA on your second part as well, ship what you like man.

Your icon is a good example of this, because right after I left the cinema after seeing the first Thor I ran to LJ to see what other people thought of the Thor/Loki.

...Was disappointed because no one seemed to care much about Thor himself, and then the fic for the pairing didn't really work for me, but still. I wasted no time.

I did the same after Avengers, so while there wasn't much fic for the movie(since I see Marvel movies a week before you guys most of the time) there was plenty of fic from the Thor movie so I had stuff to read.

Yeah, I wasn't so hard up for Thor fic at that time, was happy just reading through whatever but as the fandom went on and it became more and more Loki-centric it was a shame. I love the guy but I wanted to see some Thor-centric stuff as well.

Lucky! You don't have to worry about being spoiled, heh.

Thinking about MCU fandom just makes me sad. The actual films have so much stuff that I love, but the fandom is so different.

Well, at least I'm into Steve/Bucky. (And actually enjoy a lot of the fic for that.)

You can't always get what you want. *shrugs*

I really don't, which is great tbh, xkit is great but it's nice to not have my dash covered in blocked posts.

You can't win 'em all sadly, I still like checking out Thor/Loki every now and then but I get when fandom really doesn't gel to what you're after.

(Why is everyone against eating human flesh? Man, it's hard out here for a cannibal...)

*sad cannibal*

If I am not going into a movie already expecting slash potential (like I did with The Hobbit), I will probably be on the computer looking to see if slashfic has been posted on AO3 as soon as I get home from the cinema.

I don't make a big noise about doing it, but I won't let myself feel ashamed that I do.
elaminator: (The Hobbit: Thorin/Bilbo - hug)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-09-11 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see the big deal with it. A large majority of fandom does this, even if it isn't with slash; fans of het pairings and femslash pairings do it too. If you're enthusiastic about shipping it happens. *shrugs*

I guess OP could be coming from a place of "But I don't want to look like I only care about shipping!" but...why would anyone even assume that? If they do it doesn't matter anyway; you do you.

Here's a thought OP, instead of avoiding slash for months after, go into a movie saying "I will probably see slashy potential. This is not a bad thing.".

Be proud of your slash-coloured glasses, not ashamed. Admit that you have them and also let yourself see the relationships the makers were probably intending, alongside the slashy ones you perceive. Accept both and go read slash happy that you know and accept (if not ship) the non-slash as well.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I do that too, but because I want to write down my best slash ideas before I get influenced by other fans.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Good reason.

I try to avoid reading fics for the same pairing I'm currently working on, or else I just get confused. I can always enjoy them later.
