Text: I consciously wait weeks or months before looking for fic of movies I’ve just watched if there’s strong slash potential.
Not because I’m not interested in slash. I am, and even if I don’t ship any slash pairings from the canon in question, I like seeing what fandom’s up to.
It’s because I don’t want to feel like “that kind of fangirl”. I’m pretty sure I don’t fetishize or have my slash goggles on too tight, but still.
Book and TV fic, I look up whenever I want regardless of canon.

But I don't see the point of being ashamed of shipping or denying yourself something you're interested in. (If you're interested in eating human flesh then sure, deny the fuck out of that desire, but reading slashy fanfic isn't going to hurt anything or anyone.)

And IA on your second part as well, ship what you like man.

...Was disappointed because no one seemed to care much about Thor himself, and then the fic for the pairing didn't really work for me, but still. I wasted no time.

Yeah, I wasn't so hard up for Thor fic at that time, was happy just reading through whatever but as the fandom went on and it became more and more Loki-centric it was a shame. I love the guy but I wanted to see some Thor-centric stuff as well.

Lucky! You don't have to worry about being spoiled, heh.
Thinking about MCU fandom just makes me sad. The actual films have so much stuff that I love, but the fandom is so different.
Well, at least I'm into Steve/Bucky. (And actually enjoy a lot of the fic for that.)
You can't always get what you want. *shrugs*

You can't win 'em all sadly, I still like checking out Thor/Loki every now and then but I get when fandom really doesn't gel to what you're after.

I don't make a big noise about doing it, but I won't let myself feel ashamed that I do.

I guess OP could be coming from a place of "But I don't want to look like I only care about shipping!" but...why would anyone even assume that? If they do it doesn't matter anyway; you do you.

Be proud of your slash-coloured glasses, not ashamed. Admit that you have them and also let yourself see the relationships the makers were probably intending, alongside the slashy ones you perceive. Accept both and go read slash happy that you know and accept (if not ship) the non-slash as well.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)I try to avoid reading fics for the same pairing I'm currently working on, or else I just get confused. I can always enjoy them later.
