They're remaking Road House with Ronda Rousey in the Patrick Swayze part

One, I'm really excited, as a fan of everyone and everything involved in this, oh my god it's going to rule

Two, I thought it was an interesting case study in reference to the conversation recently about gender-swapped versions of characters and recasts and that kind of thing.

So.... thoughts?

A stupid romance wouldn't bother me as long as it's similar tonally and plot-wise to the romance plot in the original Road House. I mean, that is a really god-damn stupid romance plot. But I wouldn't object to a romance plot that put Rousey in the Swayze position and let her have the same attitude and the same agency that he had in the original film vis-a-vis romance.

But I agree that if they do some cookie-cutter type bullshit, it would be infuriating.

I have never seen Ronda Rousey in anything. I'm not sure that Roadhouse needs a fighter instead of a dancer/stage fighter, but I am really into this kind of gender-switching, and I like a lot of the original movie, so this is an idea I am on board with.

Whaaaaat that's amazing. I'm glad she's such a star, she's a real badass, beasty fighter. I almost had to face her during a junior national tournament for judo when I was a kid and I'm so glad I didn't because she and her mom terrified me, lol. She is the real deal. I never imagined she'd become a movie star though.
