what shop were you working in?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I worked in one in Michigan that had a couple locations. A nice one, one that worked even pre-MCU explosion to really get into carrying lots of trades and being welcoming to new readers. I still miss that job sometimes, no ragrets.

Michigan comment should have had AYRT at the top. :P

Oh! So you almost had no choice but to read Civil War comics.)

AYRT

oh yeah. I often worked Wednesday close (that's new release day) and I'd come in like a half hour early, maybe a little longer if it was a big week, and just grab a copy of everything new and hide in the back to catch up on the doin's. Because people would want to talk the new stuff right away. Sometimes that was really awesome, though, because I was there when Iron Man came out.

People would come into the shop losing their minds over how fun it was... and then they'd want newbie recs and we'd be like... Extremis? Demon in a Bottle? Ultimates? Ummm.... yeah.

It used to be harder to find a good entry point for some characters.

oh my god the nostalgia buuuurns.

(btw if you think getting to read all the new stuff for free means you bought less comics yourself, that was so not true for me. :D )

hehe. Did you have a discount?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yup! I don't remember what the percentages were any more, but it was a pretty good one for some merch and trades. 30? 40? I dunno, but I bought a lot of crap.

I'd probably buy a lot of crap too if I had that kind of discount! It'd be like, "Oh, huh, that looks interesting (yoink)"... read further... fuck, well, at least I didn't pay full price! My ex used to joke that if I could work (can't, disabilities prevent), I was NEVER allowed to work at a comics shop or bookstore, because between the both of us, we'd have NO paycheck left. LOL.
