Re: Serious Scenes That Have Been Ruined For You

Real life example that's going to be a 'you had to be there' story but screw it.

My grandfather died about a week before the Tim Burton film 'Big Fish' came out, and like an idiot I went to go see it. If someone doesn't remember this flick, it's all about this dude reconciling himself with his weird dad and all his bullshit stories and the dude is Very Mature and doesn't believe in fantasy anymore.

Tim Burton Whimsy (tm)

But I was an idiot for seeing this because there were just enough scenes to remind me of my just-dead grandpa that I cried my head off through most of it. Until the end of this scene. (I've got it at the right time in the link, but it's the 1:05 mark or so)

https://youtu.be/SPOpKpdn3SE?t=65

At the precise moment the man with a cane drops his hand on Sad Man's shoulder, my then-boyfriend blurted additional dialogue in the most world-weary voice: 'God help you, son.'

And I started laughing so hard I thought I was going to get us tossed out. Never made it through that movie again.

Ah. I can see how that movie might not be appropriate after a recent family death.

It is a good movie but very emotional. My sister loves it.
