Re: Unpopular opinions
(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 03:08 am (UTC)(link)I made this same argument for Obama seven years ago. What was accomplished? We got a moderate Democratic President and an extremist GOP Congress.
I figure the Democrats need a big issue to mobilize voters AND down-ticket candidates. Single-payer health insurance, a living wage, and free post-secondary education may be better than whatever Hillary Clinton stands for.
I want to have this argument, and I want to hear the candidates sound off on it, not just tell me I just have to vote Democrat. "Just voting Democrat" hasn't worked out so well for people in my state. We need better Democrats.

I agree in principle, but also, you just have to vote Democrat (at least if you live in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, or Maine; votes for president don't really matter outside of those states).
I think it's important to develop the party and get better Democrats. Feel free to primary the fuck out of your reps, your senators, your state pols, your mayors. Organize people all you want, get as many people into the party as you can, convert people to your views, do all that stuff to change the party. All of that is great and a great way to improve the party and get better Democrats.
But you simply cannot fuck around with keeping a Democrat in the White House. The stakes are too high.
