That's what I initially thought was going on, so I double-checked last year's usage. We actually used less last year around this time, and our usage throughout last fall and this spring were below the budget amount, as well. And during the winter, our usage plummets, as we don't use electric heat.

So, I'm not sure what they're using to calculate the current budget amount, as it doesn't seem to correspond to the past year's worth of usage at all. Either way, it makes sense to just go back to paying the regular bill.

Well that sucks. I really like the budget system we're on. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.

Eh it's all good. What're you gonna do, ya know?

I'm glad it's working for you, though.

I'm considering doing this but then, they said that at the end of the year, they'll add up what we paid and what we used and any overage (or underage) would be calculated. Problem is, our bill is *huge* in the winter, no matter how we scrimp on heat, and i'm afraid we'd have this huge underage to pay *right now* and not be able to.

From my understanding, with budget plans that actually...make sense, your monthly budget amount is just bumped up for a bit to cover the underage. So, it winds up being spread out.

It might be worthwhile to call your electric company and check!

It is, i mean, they average over 12 months, but it's not nearly what it is in winter. We had an electric bill one January that was 800 dollars. Found out a couple weeks ago, they routinely raise the rates in winter. Nice!

So i'm thinking about it, and i'm going to go ask questions, but...i don't think any slight raise in what they make the bill would pay for overages that high. We shall see!
