I've been rewatching TNG, and I actually find myself more fond of Riker this time around than when I first watched it. I think especially in The Best of Both Worlds, I liked the way he clashed with Shelby and how doing so really made him recalculate where he was in his life and what he wanted out of his career. Frame of Mind is a great episode for him too.

Picard, Data, and Geordi are definitely all more compelling, though. And I will fight people to the death over Beverly episodes, 'cause they're all great. (I'd actually forgotten about her captaining the Enterprise in Descent, and kicking ass at it! Doctor after my own heart. ♥)

Crusher is awesome. Literally the only episode I don't like is that one with the Alien who was with her grandmother and her ancestors and then with her. All the others are great, though. She's really interesting. She's soft but she still has a lot of steel in her and can be hard when she needs to be.

ayrt

Ah, yeah, that one's definitely...awkward. But the rest are all fantastic. Remember Me is just so good.

That's Subrosa, isn't it? LOL, but that was a really, um, unique episode.

Yup. Not the worst TNG episode but really not great.

What would you nominate as worse?

Either Angel One or The Naked Now. Probably the latter. Season 1 was not great.

I think I have actually managed to block Angel One from my mind. I agree "The Naked Now" was dire, but I'm not sure if it's worse than "Sub Rosa". Though I guess "Sub Rosa" was better acted as everyone was comfortable with their characters (who thought an 'everyone acts wildly out of character, and meanwhile we rip off a much better episode of TOS' was a good idea for the first half of the first season?)

I think they were trying to connect TNG to TOS. But there are good ways to do that (McCoy in Encounter at Farpoint) and bad ways to do that (The Naked Now). I guess maybe it isn't as bad as SubRosa? To be honest, I recently rewatched the Naked Now and haven't seen SubRosa in a while, so it could be that the horribleness of Naked Now is just more fresh in my mind.

The Beverly-centric episodes are some of the best ones in the whole show (minus that stupid-as-fuck "ghost" episode philstar22 mentioned above).

I did a little squee the first time I realized she's actually full-commander rank (and thereby perfectly capable to captain the ship in emergencies). And now I kind of want a Star Trek Med show where a ship of doctors goes around doing good.

Well, maybe not a whole show, but something.

Actually, a medical show in space is high on the list of things I'd really, really like. We've had scifi crime shows. Now how about a medical one (that isn't about a plague or zombies).
