I'm not squicked, I'm weirded out by these people. I cannot possibly comprehend what goes on in your head if you think furries are 'hot'. Also, it seems to be inextricably linked to babyfurs, and all sorts of other weird kinks. Putting peanutbutter on your sexual organs when you have a dog so said dog will do... things =/= normal, okay.

I know not all furries take it that far, but knowing some do makes me scared of meeting one in person.

I don't think I'd know what to say if someone ever admitted to me they were a real life furry, which is why I am terrified of talking to one of them. I won't be able to take them seriously, because honestly, dressing in animal costumes =/= sexy.

I've met furries in real life. I actually dated one for awhile(I didn't know she was a furry at the time). They're all pretty normal, except for the furry thing. You gotta know, though, not all furries dress in animal costumes.

Re: 54

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I also dated a furry.

NEVER AGAIN. DDDDDD: I mean, he had lots of other problems, and the furry stuff ended up being just another layer of wtf... still.

Re: 54

(Anonymous) 2008-02-06 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, you've probably already met at least one in real life and don't even know it. There are plenty of furries that are just normal people who look at themselves differently. Your fear is pretty irrational. I mean, I don't get furries, but they're not weird space aliens ready to bite your eyeballs out or anything (well, most of them...not sure about some of them vore ones XD).

By the way, not every furry is a fursuiter. Nor are all furries sexually attracted to animals, stuffed animals or peanut butter. You're making some crazy sweeping generalizations there. I'd be more afraid of you flying off the handle and stabbing a guy in a Bugs Bunny costume at a kiddy event than I would be if I met a guy with a tail.

Re: 54

[identity profile] tamburlaine.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
So wait, then what are furries sexually attracted to? What qualifies as an "average furry"? I'm being serious here.

Re: 54

(Anonymous) 2008-02-06 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
First off, gotta say that I'm not a furry and don't directly know any furries, so my opinion just comes from reading up on them and trying to understand. Secondly, every furry is different, just like everyone else, so diffrent strokes for different folks.

Now, people who are sexually attracted to and have sex with animals are Zoophiles. You don't have to be a furry to be a Zoophile! Maybe some furries are Zoophiles, but you don't have to be a furry to have sex with a horse/sheep/dog.

So what are furries? In the basic sense, a furry seems to be a person who has a "fursona", this is their "dream appearance" if you will or what they feel their soul is perhaps? For some it's fantasy, for others, that's their desired reality. I've had it described to me as being sort of the best of both worlds, having the wild raw nature of an animal with the consciousness and opposable thumbs of a human. I don't get what's wrong with just being human, but whatever. It's hard to pin down because it's such a personal thing that's different for different people.

So basically, I consider an average furry to be a person who has a fursona and feels that they are "furry on the inside" if you will. They like furry art (not necessarily erotic). The reason they like their furry art to be erotic is because it furthers that fantasy. They wish they were like that, so why wouldn't they find art of their chosen body image to be attractive? But just because they like their humanoid shapes with a tail, doesn't mean they want to stick their cock in anything that owns one.

I hope that all makes some sense. But again, not a furry, so my understanding of the topic might be a little fuzzy, so if anyone else wants to step in for some clarification, feel free.

SOME to animals. Just like some none furries are. It probably runs higher in furries, BUT as far as I can tell, the only thing that defines them as a whole is like anthro!animals.

Not to say they're aren't the weird squicky ones. But there's tons who aren't. A lot don't even view it as a sexual thing, just it's own sorta fandom.

Not furry and haven't done TONS of research, but like the anon just tried to figure it out.

Re: 54

[identity profile] nabradia.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You did enough research to get it right, dude. Rock on. =D

Re: 54

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
:D I'm not furry, but can appreciate why one would be interested in some aspects, and think they rather get fucked on the interweb.

I'd hate to be labeled a pedophile because I enjoy Naruto, or something akin to that.

Re: 54

[identity profile] baka-deshi.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
IAWTC. I'm not really into anthros or whatever, but I think it's kind of shitty how fans will blow a gasket over their very existence...when often those same people will claim IF U DON'T LIKE MY YAOI THEN DON'T READ IT. If you don't like furry crap, the back button exists for that too :)

Just because someone's fantasy weirds someone else out doesn't mean it shouldn't exist, jeez. Save that for shit like actual CP/bestiality/murder.

Re: 54

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like...I bet the yaoi fan would be pretty pissed if everyone assumed they were all pedophiles who looked at Shota and tried to act it out in real life. I know *I* would be.

Re: 54

[identity profile] baka-deshi.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Honestly, I see most of the furry haters as nerds who feel the need to find someone 'nerdier' than themselves, so they won't seem so weird. (The sad thing is, to 'normal' people? All types of nerds are bizarre, anime/scifi/furry fen alike XD;)

Re: 54

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
So many people are so quick to judge Furries on that CSI episode, without realizing to a lot of people, that's what they have seen of any con.

(And really, I mean obviously it was compacted and shortened for the market, but the part actually AT the con? Was kinda)

Re: 54

[identity profile] baka-deshi.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
? Was kinda what?

I'm curious, as I'm not really familiar with CSI...I heard they made the furry subculture look very bad but I never did find anyone who'd seen the source to tell me how.

Re: 54

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well the actual con had people wandering around in diffrent level of costumes, or none, and they went into one panels about...I can't remember. Like bodning with your inner animal. And another was a fasion show.

Which, if furcons are anything like anime cons feel pretty right. I think the people pissed about it are because it does what a lot of people here are and present the sexual side as being the whole culture.

But it has the best line ever. The guy who dies get poisoned by licking the guy in the cat suit, and Greg is like "That's what you get for lickin...nevermind."

Re: 54

[identity profile] baka-deshi.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I get it...it's like if they did a show about anime fans but set it at yaoicon or something, focused entirely on porn. Yeeeaaah I bet that pissed people off.

Re: 54

[identity profile] nabradia.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? While a lot of furs are attracted to anthropomorphic things (which they deem 'safe' due to having human minds, as it were) most are primarily attracted to.. uh. Humans. Weirdly enough. Some furs -even- have OTHER interests. Amazing, huh?

For the most part, the furry thing doesn't extend further than online roleplay, and a lot don't even do that. Some take it further and choose to be weird and have sex in their costumes, but really, that's not much different than any other sort of dressing up fetish. You're fucking an animal no more than fucking a nun, or whatever. It's all make believe, obviously.

Furries have outside-internet relationships with other people. Of course, the horse-fuckers are still there, but not all people who do that -ARE- furs. Fur, for the most part = person who has an anthro animal persona on the internet or someone who just likes the look of anthro animals. Not that EVERY anthro animal fan is a fur, like.

Yeah, so they go to conventions. So do anime fans and sci-fi nerds, there's no difference.

If you're talking people who think they actually have the 'soul' of an animal in them, real or imaginary (dragons, for instance) check out 'Therianism'. That's a WHOLE new batch of batshit.

And in response to 'anon' to all furs, the fursona is not a 'dream appearance'. It's just a character, like a screen name with a picture. For some, yeah. They want nothing more than to be a wolf or a horse or whatever, but. Yeah.

That all said, after having been a fur for 11 years, I still don't know the ins and outs. Characterising furs under one big blanketed description is like doing the same for the whole of the anime fandom, for size and diversity. No one can seem to agree on it.

Re: 54

(Anonymous) 2008-02-07 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think the problem is that 'furry' gets used as a kitchen sink for all kinds of shit. I don't think I know an 'average furry', I just know individuals. I try to stay away from the crazy ones.

(And yes, I am part of the subculture...I keep it on the down-low because I don't want to deal with the misconception that furry = pedo inflation-fetish animalfucker.)

Re: 54

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I met one. He was walking around campus with a tail pinned to his jeans.

Everyone was rightly laughing at him.

Re: 54

[identity profile] skullduggery.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I love my friend (http://www.kiche.deviantart.com/) to death. Her art is gorgeous, amazing, and beautiful. Admittedly, we are cruel and mock furries together (esp. the ones that wear costumes). However, it would make me enormously sad that people assume she's a furre just 'cause she draws pretty anthros. Honestly, unless they're overtly sexual, drawing anthro!animals is no more weird than watching Tom and Jerry on Cartoon Network.

Not aiming this at you, specifically, anonymous, but just saying maybe some people should better educate themselves about the meaning/stigma of "furre" before throwing it around so much.

Re: 54

[identity profile] nabradia.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking as a furry...

I have to say, I'm not attracted to 'furry' style things in a sexual way at all. Nor are a lot of furries.

And.. if it helps, a great deal of furs think Fursuiters and ESPECIALLY babyfurs are all batshit crazy, myself included. Don't even talk about the zoophiles, we want nothing to do with them. We don't like them any more than non-furs; they make us look bad. And the animal costumes are hella creepy.

Being a furry should be no different to being identified as an Anime fan, or a trekkie. But people seem to see the word 'furry' and go "GAH! EVIL!" With... good reason, for the most part.

Don't worry, though. The sane furs take the piss out of 'furfags' as much as anyone else. X3 That said, I can't talk for the whole fandom. That's like taking for the entire western anime fanbase.

Re: 54

(Anonymous) 2008-02-07 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm squicked because my ex-best friend, who is a Sonicfag furry, spent most of last year pretty much hitting on me non-stop, making 'you can be my Rose' references or whatever the fuck and then eventually telling me aaaaall about his 'wet dreams'. I don't care if I'm generalizing, I fucking hate furries. Also, they've got that unwarranted-self-importance complex, no matter WHO they are. I'd rather sit in a room and stare at real life guro than sit in a room with a furry, not even kidding.

Re: 54

(Anonymous) 2008-02-07 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
So you've just connected infantilism (babyfurs) and bestiality (dogs and peanutbutter) with the term 'furry'. This is exactly why you have probably met furries IRL, you just don't know them.

I won't be able to take them seriously, because honestly, dressing in animal costumes =/= sexy.

Neither are fat chicks, does that mean you don't take any fat chicks seriously? (If so, gtfo fandom now.)
