Weird Habits You've Had Since You Were a Kid

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-09-12 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some strange habits you've had since childhood?

Whenever I make a sandwich, I always eat the edges first then the middle. Not that weird. But I always have to rub my lips against the smooth side of the bread before I eat it. O.o I am very particular about how I eat everything, but that is the oddest food eating habit I have.

I also hold my breath when going by a graveyard, but that is because a book I read put the superstition into my head!

I eat pizza backwards. I swear, eat the crust first and everybody thinks you're insane. :/

Do you eat it with your hands? It seems hard to eat it crust first.

Yay I'm not the only one to do that! I always eat the crust or the edge first on any food. Sometimes I'd even peel off edible fruit skin and eat them first.

Those little plastic cups of coffee creamer. Leave them too close to me and they will be drained of their delicious, delicious cream.

My sister has a similar addiction. She LOVES the hazelnut coffee creamer. She goes thru one huge bottle a week.

I've been very tempted to do this sometimes :D.

On a similar note, I used to like eating whipped cream right out of the container. Just that, too, nothing else with it.

And my sister would eat butter right off the tray when she was little.

Question: is coffee creamer milk? Or actual cream?

I'm Australian and we put milk in coffee. I've never heard of coffee creamer.

Regarding food, anytime I eat colored candies, I always divide them out by color, or have a certain order in which I eat them (like with Skittles, I go orange first, then yellow, then green, then purple, then red). And I always save any red-colored candies for last, since red is my favorite color and I like a lot of red-flavored candies in general :p.

I do that too! And I leave blue for last. Except for Skittles. I leave the yellow for last because lemon is amazing.

Almost literally the worst skittle eating order, jesus. It goes purple > orange > red > yellow > green.

When I eat little candies like that, I always eat them two at a time - one to crunch in my molars on either side of my mouth. If they come in differemt colors, I tend to pair them by color so each pair I eat are the same (if there is size variance, I will pair like-sizes together).

I do this too. Only I save orange for last because they are my favorites.

My sister and I were talking about holding your breath while passing graveyards the other day, and she mentioned a book she read it in too!

I hold my breath whenever someone takes a posed photo of me. Candid photos are no problem, but if someone says, "Hold still, I'm going to take your picture," I stop breathing until they take it. Not sure why, unless child me took the "hold still" part too literally.

Ah, I don't hold my breath for pics but my fake smile is terrible.

If I see an insect that is caught in the sink/in water I always save it. Even if it's an insect I don't generally like (like a wasp or a hornet) or wouldn't normally try to save.

Chicken nuggets.

I eat around the sides, turning them into a meat/breading sandwich. I don't know why, I've just always done it.

When I was very young, I'd then eat the meat and save the breading top/bottom to eat in a pile at the end. I stopped doing that because I realized it was kinda weird as hell.

I do the same thing with sandwiches. The edge eating thing. I also always eat my favorite first but save one bite for last to eat after everything else.

I never eat pizza crust

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
because I dislike bread... and the pizza crust is so dry and yucky

people call me crazy and wasteful for not eating it but why would I eat something I'm not gonna enjoy? it's not like it's nutritional either SO GET OFF MY BACK AND EAT MY CRUST IF IT BOTHERS YOU SO MUCH

I've actually stopped eating pizza because people are always bothering me about it and it's honestly giving me a tiny bit anxiety to the point I've started associating pizza with sadness and regret

so... yeah

Whenever I eat food from a dinner plate, I always eat the food in sections in order and never mix the food.

For example if my plate has salad, potatoes and a steak, I have to finish ALL of the salad before I eat the potatoes, and then I eat all the potatoes before I can even touch the steak.

I used to suffer from an ED and this is, I guess, a small remnant of that. It's a power/control thing.

Weirder still, if I'm eating from a bowl I'm happy to mix everything up into a gross goo and I'll eat everything. (Because the food is already "ruined" aka piled on top of each other, so what the heck.)

I bite my nails, which isn't just weird, but pretty gross. I know I can get some pretty nasty infections and I've tried to quit, but eventually, something will make me feel anxious and I'll start biting again. When my nails get too short, I chew the skin around them. We had a pinworm infestation at the school I work at and I was so, so paranoid of getting them that I'd scrub my fingertips with crazy hot water and bleach before biting.

I always gnaw off the bottom of cordial cherries (leaving a little chocolate cup), then drink the cordial, eat the cherry, and finally crunch up the chocolate shell.

I learned the "hold your breath when passing the graveyard" thing from a childhood friend who was lousy with superstitions. Spit three times down your shirt if you see a white dog. Touch your collar and slap the sole of your shoe if you see an ambulance or a train going east. IDK why I still do that shit, but I do.

Never whistle at night, never look in a mirror during a lightning storm. These are family superstitions. And you always have to go into the house through the same door you came in by, and vice versa. My whole family takes this one very seriously.

Also, the first person who walks into the house on New Year's morning has to step over the threshold with their right foot first.
