Vegans who feed their cats/dogs vegetables. They're pricks, because dogs/cats digestive tracts are not designed for plant matter.

That's not dumb to be judgy over if you know someone who does it, but as far as I know, it's really just a strawman made up by people who want to hate on vegans.

I have known people who did it irl. Which probably doesn't hold much weight cause I am an anon, but still. I was horrified by the poor state of their cat. :c

No it is not. It is very much not. I've gotten into conversations (arguments) with people like this. With people who not only insisted that there's no problem with it, but also said that I was hypocritical for complaining about it being abuse because I ate meat.

These people exist.

Like... only vegetables or some vegetables?

Because even cats and dogs in the wild consume plant matter, and often for nutritive purposes.

Only vegetables. Most good quality pet foods will include vegetables with meat cause it is good for them, but there are some (very few) extremists who believe dogs and cats don't need ANY meat. Which is a good way to slowly starve your pet to death.

Cats, yes. Dogs... jury is out. Technical no, perhaps.

I'm not arguing that it's an especially good diet for a dog (unless you're looking for a hypoallergenic diet and only vegetable matter fits the bill), but they're not technically obligate carnivores. You will not be starving them to death.

Er... Cats, sure, they're carnivores. But while dogs should have meat in their alimentation it's totally fine for them to eat vegetables too, they're omnivores (with preference for meat). Their body digest plant matter just fine.

This is the case for cats, not dogs. Dogs will happily eat vegetables, and wolves do eat plant matter. Doesn't mean they might not do well with some meat.

Just to be clear…dogs don't HAVE to eat meat. In fact, I watched an episode of How It's made that showed dog food being made -- all the protein is from plant matter. There wasn't any actual meat in the dog's food.

Cats, on the other hand, are obligate carnivores so it is absolutely animal abuse to not give a cat meat -- you're going to kill it.
