Advice! (Wedding Etiquette)

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
One of my dear friends is getting married, and I'm really happy for her! She's got a registry set up, and I'm definitely going to get something for her and her husband-to-be from that, but would it be alright if I got her something else as well? I was thinking about something small, like a pair of custom candle holders (for tea candles, so they're not too big). I think she really would like the ones I'm looking at, but I'd have to send her some color swatches, to ask what colors they'd both want.

Would that be alright? That way she gets something I know she wants, but I do really think she'd like these candle holders as well. (And I'm thinking about adding some electric lights, so that they can use them even if they can't have candles in their apartment.)

I'm thinking about these:

Sounds fine to me. Bridal registries are suggestions, not demands. Or at least, they shouldn't be demands, though sometimes people get rather Bridezilla about it.

I don't think she'll go bridezilla; I'm just worries about stressing her out by asking about color swatches. ^^;

Well, you might be overthinking the color swatch thing. Is she that meticulous about color coordinated home decor? Otherwise I'd just pick what you think she'd like.

She's not super meticulous, but I want it to be something for both her and her husband-to-be, so I'm acknowledging them as a couple.

...it is very probable that I am also overthinking this, admittedly.

I don't know that much about etiquette or weddings tbh, but you're getting her a present! Two even, if you're getting her something from the registry as well.

There is no such thing as too many presents IMO.

Thanks! I feel like that's the rational response, but this is my first adult wedding, so I want to do things correctly.

I got my friend an extra gift too, and she was very appreciative.

Also, that is beautiful - I bet she'll love it! :)

Thank you! That's good to know! And thanks! I'm hoping mine will look as good as the picture. :D

If that's something you know she'll genuinely like, yeah, go for it :)! I think that's a really sweet idea.

I think she will- hope she will, at any rate, lol. Thanks!
