You could always start some ship wars. Just go up to some shipper and push them over all, "YOUR SHIP IS SHIT! LOOK AT THIS WEAK ASS SHIP! THERE IS NO CANON TO BACK IT UP!"

This just isn't something I understand. I miss caring enough about something to want to read and watch all the things, write and squee over ot with others. Where does fighting and hashing other people's joy just because they like something else get fun?

This is how I feel. I don't want to get dragged into any ship war crap with the shows I like. I just want everyone to go forth and ship whatever they want without someone lambasting them for doing so.

I hate to say it, anon, but...I get what you mean. There are times when I long for the ship wars of my youth.

On the other hand, I have no patience for any sort of shipping drama in my current fandoms, so even if I did come across a massive ship war, I know I'd keep out of it. I'd be one of the people on the sidelines going, "hey guys, c'mon, ship and let ship."

Can't say I understand this. For me loving a ship means I want to read all the fic, look at all the art, and think about it a lot. Not give other people a hard time for what they like.

Honestly, social justice basically killed ship wars (or at least what made them exciting). Now, it's all about which ship can score the most oppression points.

It's no fun. :(

Agreed. At least with ship wars I could make fun of people who rile up other people who like things that are "competition" with what they like. SJ bs brownie points though? All I can do is just cast unimpressed looks and tune them out. Because they're just boring and too try-hard. Bleh.

I was going to say the "your ship is problematic" is what made it a fuckload less fun.

But otherwise, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
This. It's not about ship vs ship anymore, it's just about making the other shippers feel bad about what they ship and pointing out every detail that could be the least bit problematic.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah like, sure, some het-shippers tried to play up their ship as more feminist than their rival ship but that was as far as it got.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in a fandom with an ongoing ship war, but people on both sides stick to passive aggressive vagueblogging, so it's no fun at all.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I can't even remember how ship wars used to be conducted in the LJ days. That's really weird because I was there at least for... most recently... maybe Zutara vs Kataang, but I can't remember how any of it went down.

I also can't imagine how a ship war would go down on Tumblr. I mean, I've only seen posts complaining about ship wars, and they just made me think, "There's a ship war going on in our fandom???"

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Join the MCU fandom. You'll never want for ship wars there.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
+1

And they are the most petty and hateful I have ever seen, and I was in Hetalia fandom when it got super nasty.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Saaame :(

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to not have any ship wars for the time being.
Unfortunately my fandom is probably just in the calm before the storm stage right now. Peace can never last forever.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Why would you want ship wars? It's just people shaming others and the same circular arguments again and again with no chance of changing someones opinion.
I get some people are confrontational, but just let others enjoy what they want.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
In the olden days ship wars occurred because you thought your pairing was more "compatible" or just clicked better, not because the rival ship was something to be ashamed of.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I aways loved watching slapfights over which ship had more chemistry, where one side would grow increasingly insistent that their ship had more chemistry and you'd have to be blind not to see it, and the other side would grow increasingly insistent that no, their ship definitely has more chemistry, you must be delusional if you think your ship has anything rivaling that! It would just go on and on and on, with people furiously trying to explain why clearly subjective things like chemistry and "clicking" better are totally objective when it comes to their OTP's romance.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I could theoretically get into a flamewar, because all the new fans in my fandom claiming how the new adaptation is so much ~better~ and ~more true to the original~ while being totally biased are getting on my nerves. (I don't think that it could be objectively proven, btw, but if it could be, I don't think they would be right.)

But I'm just some jaded oldfag who lurks around, draws fanart, and reads fanfic, and frankly? I just roll my eyes and move on, congratulating myself on being a better person for not shoving my taste and opinions down other people's throats with biased remarks.
