YESSSS! Totally agree with this. Though, I don't fall asleep to the show because I don't need anymore murders in my dreams!

Wow, there's an actor I haven't heard about in a long time! :O

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, it's the guy who does Chapter a Day on NPR. I wish they played that late in the evening instead of the afternoon when I'm usually trying NOT to fall asleep.

Fun fact: His voice is what I hear when I'm reading comics with omniscient narrators.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's fair.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm gonna start hearing it. Though it will probably make me think something scary is about to be revealed.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you ever have weird dreams because of the things he talks about?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but something weird about me is that I find find urban legends, unsolved mysteries, and other creepy stuff helps me relax.

I had really bad insomnia when I was 14 because I stumbled upon a creepy Chinese website/online game that was to promote a horror movie (I assume because I can't read Chinese). I couldn't sleep so I tried to fight fire with fire by watching scary movies and crime documentaries until once fear canceled out the other and I became sort of desensitized.

Now my brain is somehow wired to find creepy stuff, mysteries, and Robert Stacks voice to be the most relaxing thing for me.

Unsolved Mysteries was nightmare fuel for me, but I loved it.

I miss the days when my summer afternoons involved a block of Doogie Howser, Rescue 911 and Unsolved Mysteries. Maybe a little Sally Jessy Raphael for variety.

Unsolved Mysteries was nightmare fuel for me, but I loved it.

I actually flinched for the briefest moment when I scrolled to this last secret and all of a sudden, there's Stack staring at me :p.

But YES to your TV lineup (save for "Doogie Howser"-somehow I missed out on watching him). I freaking loved "Rescue 911", and this show was great, too. I was all about the stories involving supposedly haunted places, those were my favorite segments.

And Sally Jesse. Man. There's a blast from the past right there. I remember sometimes watching those kinds of shows and whenever someone on them would act like a jerk I got legit upset about it, nearly as much as the vocal audience did :p.

Mine was Unsolved Mysteries, the Golden Girls, and the Nanny. I watched Lifetime a lot in the middle of the day.

Maybe you could try other things that he's done as well.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I only suggest this because, while I do like his voice, those unsolved mysteries following me into sleep make me shudder.

He's the narrator on Hercules (the tv series spin-off to Disney's Hercules).

Re: Maybe you could try other things that he's done as well.

He also voiced Ultra Magnus on the Transformers Movie (the 1986 animated one).

I did the same! I had a lot of surgeries and illnesses as a kid and so I'd tune in to Unsolved Mysteries, partly because I was a weird and morbid kid who liked hearing stories about Bigfoot and unsolved murders, and partly because I just really loved hearing his voice all the time.

It really helped a lot when I was laid up!

YAY!

Unsolved mysteries secret! For that matter, Robert Stack secret!

"I want you to give this scumbag a cavity search. I'm talking Roto-Rooter. Don't stop until you reach the back of his teeth."

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
This came to my mind, too :D. So weird and yet so awesome that he was in that movie.

I loved summers because my parents would let me stay up late and watch Unsolved Mysteries! Yup, I was that weird kid.

I also got to see the original airings with him instead of the hacked up Dennis Farina ones.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Unsolved Mysteries and Fact or Fiction were stuff my whole family loved watching. I had to be around 10 years old and my sister was two years younger.
I guess that is what inspired my interest in criminology and mysteries.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, so I can totally see this.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
100% agreed! His voice always calms me despite talking about creepy stuff on Unsolved Mysteries. There will never be another voice quite like his.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Do people really get dreams/nightmares related to stuff they do just before sleeping? That never works for me. My dreams are always completely unrelated to my stuff going on in my life or what I do before bedtime.

I can watch a bunch of serial killer documentaries or unsolved murder mysteries and my dreams will not have anything to do with that. Maybe it's because I subconsciously set up mental blacklist, "I don't want to see this in my dream" and my brain accepts the request.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-15 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
I never have a problem with it either and I also read and watch a lot of crime/serial killer/mystery stuff. And horror. I think for most people, dreams aren't that straightforward. I hardly ever dream about things that occupy most of my waking hours, it's always random trivial bits and pieces, or things I haven't consciously thought about for years.

Haha! I had a friend who said Robert Stack creeped her out and she refused to watch the show.
