Re: stuff that surprised you about other countries

This. it is kind of astounding to me that even so many Americans are convinced that America as a country has nothing except for McDonalds and other fast food, and a couple other chain restaurants. It's sad how many people miss out on delicious, local places! And I don't think they are "concentrated in a few specific places", basically any city in my experience is going to have something more local.
