He'd make a good boyfriend sometimes. I imagine the drive to be the best at everything could pull to your advantage, for example-- until you ticked him off and he pinned you to the ceiling with a desk in a fit of rage.

See, now I wonder if you maybe missed my point. This is very tricky, and I even used my bullshit icon.


It is my firm belief that if your boyfriend is only nice to you as long as you do not piss him off, and beats you as soon as you do something he dislikes, then he is not a good boyfriend, but an abusive jerk who belongs in jail.
And I honestly don't want to believe that there are girls you would really think that if he sweetly smiles at them when they are obedient good little girls, then he's wonderful and it doesn't matter that he beat them to a bloody pulp last night when they forgot to put the beer in the fridge... I... I mean... what the fuck? Do you want to be in an abusive relationship?

...oh. Sorry, I figured you understood-- I meant the same thing you did, only I find the whole setup hilarious. The idea of having Sylar as a boyfriend, living like a queen/king (pick appropriate gender) and then being violently murdered the first time you have a fight, is such a caricature of terrible relationships that I can't help but laugh. I'm sorry if I offended you by making light of such a serious subject.

Oh, don't get me wrong-- I probably would date the guy or at least boink him. I just wouldn't pretend the relationship was in any way healthy. *snrk* Nor would I recommend him as a potential suitor for sane individuals.

Heh, yes. Only Sylar is narcissistic, controlling, obsessive, and aggressive, so it's not like he'd ever really be looking out for the other person's emotional welfare; he'd always come first. But he does have the ability to "know how things work", so the sex would be outstanding.

It depends how you interpret him. On a more relaxed, generous characterization, it's possible he could legitimately come to care for another human being, in which case not only would the sex be fantastic but you'd get pampered beyond your wildest dreams because he wouldn't be able to stand the thought of taking second place in the best-boyfriend-ever contest. --Until you broke up, and then oh boy.

Also: You write that. I? Write porn of him. (Well, RP.) On a regular basis. And yes, it is fantastic. (The sex. Judging the quality of my porn is a task for other people.)

Yeah, I believe Sylar could feel affection - even love - for another person. IMO, however, because of the sheer depth of his self-absorption, it will always be about him, no matter how much he cares. He might pamper and protect his significant other, but that wouldn't make him a good boyfriend - he just doesn't have the emotional capacity for it.

I can see that, yeah. It's the difference between "this is what canon indicates" and "ooh hey, this would be really fun to RP and it wouldn't contradict canon". Genuine affection, the kind that involves more emotional capacity than he shows in any episode except The Hard Part, is usually more fun in one-on-one pairing threads than the kind that's as selfish as Sylar seems to be portrayed. Usually. :D
