You have to remember to add like, "I hate this group because...." or "I hate the fatbaiting on this show...". They have to be opinions!

NS 2

Because Sherlock is written and run by people who go for low hanging fruit when it comes to jokes. That's been the case from the very beginning, so I don't expect it to change for Mycroft.

Isn't is just Sherlock who makes fun of his weight? Which is something a sibling would do.

A sibling who's a dick, sure. But since we're talking about fictional characters whose lines are written for them by the writers of the show, I'm not sure why that's relevant.

because it is in character for a dick sibling to pick at and make fun of the thing you are most uncomfortable with about your body.

Yes, I realize that. I'm merely pointing out that writing a character who does this doesn't negate the fact that the character is written by real people, making conscious decisions to incorporate fat jokes.

I'm surprised they didn't go the Stephen Fry route, sincsidering that they lifted almost everything else from the Ritchie movies.

It's probably more that Gatiss wanted to play the role himself with the least possible effort (putting on weight or spending hours having a fat suit applied). So they include the fat jokes to do the whole "Look! We alluded to a ACD canon factoid!" while a casually avoiding actually doing a "true to original canon" design.
